Software Engineering Manager
Overview
As MISO’s Software Engineering Manager, you will lead one or more software teams to design, build, and operate software at scale, setting technical direction and ensuring delivery across scope, cost, and quality. You will advance AI-native and automation-first SDLC practices while aligning with engineering standards and collaborating with Product Management and stakeholders. You will drive vendor partnerships and develop a growth-focused engineering culture. This role places you at the heart of grid-modernization initiatives that impact millions of customers.

ResponsibilitiesLead software engineering teams: set technical direction, drive delivery, and advance modern practicesChampion AI-native and automation-first SDLC across the organizationPartner with Product Management to align roadmaps with stakeholder and customer needsOversee vendor partnerships: SOW development, onboarding, and performance to meet quality and security standardsEstablish departmental goals and ensure adherence to standards and modern engineering practicesRecruit, mentor, and develop engineers and emerging leaders with growth plansProvide technology leadership in application development and security; track delivery, quality, budgets, and resource forecasts
Key requirementsBachelor in Computer Science (or related field)Minimum 5 years technical experience and 3 years in management (12 years tech and 5 years management preferred)Experience leading multiple software engineering teams in a distributed workforceExperience with outsourced teams: vendor selection, onboarding, contract/SOW oversight, performance managementStrong understanding of software development methodologiesExperience implementing AI-native tooling and workflowsStrong CI/CD and modern ecosystems (e.g., GitHub)Cloud-native architectures (Azure, Kubernetes), containerization, and Terraform for IaCBackground in developing customer-facing apps, APIs, and real-time high-availability systemsUnderstanding of application security practices and secure SDLC in compliance-driven environments (e.g., NERC CIP, SOC 1)leadership and people managementstakeholder communicationcollaboration across cross-functional teamsAI-native software engineering tooling and workflowsCI/CD (GitHub)cloud-native architectures (Azure, Kubernetes)
