Crew Supervisor
Note: This opportunity is available only to current employees of WSSC Water.General SummaryThe Crew Supervisor supervises one or more crews of utility service workers engaged in maintenance or construction work. The Crew Supervisor is responsible for achieving work objectives. Work is performed under general supervision from the Section Manager with considerable latitude for independent judgment within established policies, methods, and procedures.Essential FunctionsSupervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending terminationAssigns specific tasks to field staff in the performance of daily job assignments to ensure completion of the work safely and in a high-quality mannerEnsure the overall work quality and conformance to WSSC Water's standard procedures for all facets of the work included but not limited to temporary and final site restorationPrepares daily reports and/or work order documenting personnel time, equipment, and materials utilized in completing given tasks. Collects data used for preparing work schedules, ordering materials or preparing reports, and answering customer requests or complaintsInitiates actions regarding hiring, transfer, promotion, payroll, leaves, performance and other personnel actionsReceives specific tasks from the Section Manager as to location, type and time schedule for completion of maintenance, repair or construction activities for water distribution or sewage collection systemsMobilizes crew(s) and determines materials and supplies needed to complete the assigned job; arranges for the timely delivery or placement at the work siteCollects, corrects, and updates site plans, construction plans, and WSSC Water system maps with accurate information gathered in the field, provides this information to appropriate personnel or locationsEnsures compliance with safety rules and regulations in accordance, but not limited to OSHA , the State of Maryland, and WSSC WaterOther FunctionsAssists with investigation of vehicle accidents, work injuries, and recommends corrective action or disciplineParticipates on cross functional teamsEvaluates and makes recommendations of new materials and/or equipmentServes as Acting Section Manager when so designatedPerforms related duties as requiredWork Environment and Physical DemandsWork will be primarily conducted in the field.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques commonly used in the maintenance of water distribution, wastewater collection and meter operationsKnowledge of safety precautions and hazards in workKnowledge of personnel policies and responsibility for administering the personnel actionsKnowledge of work management and work leadership in planning, assigning, and supervising work crewsAbility to communicate clearly to make verbal and written reportsAbility to use computer equipment and software related to the assignmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the publicMinimum Education, Experience RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent5 years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and/or construction of water distribution and/or sewage collection systemsAdditional RequirementsPossession of a valid driver's license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer dateEmployees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to workObtain and maintain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ) within 1 year of hire or transferObtain and maintain a Class 1 Water Distribution Systems Operator certification within 1 year of hire or transferObtain and maintain a Class 2 Wastewater Collection Systems Operator certification within 2 years of hire or transferPossession of the National Association of Sewer Service Companies ( NASSCO ) PACP , MACP , LACP certifications and maintain them throughout the time in the position.On call availability 24/7 or may be deemed Essential at any timeAdditional InformationAll applicants selected will be subject to drug screening and a background check/verification.J-18808-Ljbffr
