Adult Services Librarian
Joliet Public Library is seeking an experienced, people-focused Adult Services Librarian to join our team at the Black Road Branch. This position is ideal for a librarian who enjoys working directly with the public, feels confident leading and developing programs, and values thoughtful, responsive library service.As an Adult Services Librarian, you’ll play an active role in connecting patrons with information, resources, and engaging programs that support lifelong learning and community engagement. We foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment that encourages new ideas, professional growth, and the pursuit of individual career goals—while keeping our community at the center of everything we do.Key Responsibilities IncludePlan, coordinate, and deliver adult programs that reflect community interests and align with department goalsDevelop program ideas, build community partnerships, and evaluate program success for continuous improvementProvide high-quality public service by assisting patrons with print, digital, and community resourcesSelect, order, and maintain adult collections, including ongoing weeding and organizationAssist patrons with Adult Services technology, including computers, printers, scanners, and digital resourcesSupport patrons with basic computer use, internet searching, and navigating library databases and the catalogProvide readers’ advisory services through booklists, displays, and one-on-one recommendationsPlace holds, assist with interlibrary borrowing requests, and answer account-related questionsServe as Person in Charge as needed and assist with daily service desk operationsParticipate in professional development and contribute to internal committees and team initiativesQualificationsMaster’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (required)Strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse patronsExperience or demonstrated interest in planning and leading adult programsComfort with technology, including digital collections and common software applicationsAbility to work independently while contributing positively to a team environmentClear communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
