Licensed Vocational Nurse - WIC

JOB GENERAL PURPOSEPerforms technical duties and assists with other related duties involved in certifying Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program participants. Conducts nutrition education classes and does individual counseling with WIC participants.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the general supervision of the Health Department Supervisor/WIC Director.SUPERVISION EXERCISEDNone.SCHEDULE INFORMATIONMonday through Thursday7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with 1 hour for lunchNo required overtimeNo nights, weekends, or shift work13 paid holidays EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMeasures women, infants, and children for height, length, and weight.Draws blood by finger puncture and does HGB determinations with the use of a digital hemoglobinometer.Implements nutrition education in cooperation with the WIC Program Coordinator.Interviews participants or relatives to obtain appropriate health history and/or dietary recall.Utilizes community relationships to contribute to better public awareness of the WIC Program.Identify the need for appropriate immunizations.Maintain correct freezer/refrigerator temperatures.Promote and counsel on the benefits of breast-feeding.Participate in outreach activities and mobile clinics.PERIPHERAL DUTIESPerforms other duties as assigned by the Health Department Supervisor/WIC Director.
