Sr. DBA/Data Engineer

SummaryOur client is seeking a Sr. SQL Database Administrator/Data Engineer to administer, secure, and optimize the organization's SQL Server environment and to design and support scalable data solutions. This role will partner with business and technical teams to ensure that the data platforms supporting reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives across the organization are high-performing, reliable, and secure.ResponsibilitiesAdminister, configure, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server environments across production, test, and development systems.Manage backup, recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and database performance through monitoring, tuning, indexing, and capacity planning.Design, develop, and maintain data architecture including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.Build and optimize ETL processes and data integration solutions to ensure accurate, reliable, and accessible data.Develop scalable data solutions using SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, and related Azure technologies.Analyze data and work with business stakeholders to deliver reporting, analytics, and data-driven solutions.Leverage modern SQL Server AI capabilities, including vector search, embeddings, semantic search, and AI model integration, to support AI-ready data platforms.Recommend and implement improvements that enhance database reliability, scalability, security, and overall system performance.Requirements3+ years of experience in SQL Server administration and data engineering including extensive experience with installation, upgrades, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and performance tuning.Experience designing data architecture, data models, ETL processes, and enterprise data integration solutions.Proficiency with Azure technologies including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, and related data services.In-depth knowledge of relational and non-relational database technologies.Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.Ability to work on-call one week per month.PreferredExperience with AI-enabled data platforms, semantic search, vector databases, or SQL Server 2025 AI capabilities.This is a 6-month Contract-to-hire opportunity with our Lenexa, KS client.
