Camp Nurse (3868)

This position is responsible for: Plans, directs, facilitates, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day medical needs of camp staff and campers; reviews medical information and stays abreast of techniques and medical information needed to maintain a healthy environment; offers medical advice to the staff and campers as needed; dispenses medications to staff and campers as needed according to the physician's prescription. Supervises nursing staff activities and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities:Provides or ensures orientation is provided that includes standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, police and contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting.Develops, plans, delivers, and assesses the effectiveness of health-related instruction and training at the camp (i.e., C.P.R., first aid, etc.).Trains counselors on their responsibilities for reporting illnesses, injuries, and unsafe practices or conditions that may contribute to camper or staff accidents.Supervises nursing staff activities and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.Ensures the health and safety of all campers and staff by providing a safe environment in accordance with the ACA Health and Wellness Accreditation standards. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to conduct examinations of campers and staff. Some physical requirements of the Camp Nurse position include endurance, such as climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are required to manipulate nursing equipment and perform various activities. Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program at the available facility. Operate in daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
