Position DetailsPosition InformationJob TitleMayer Museum Graduate Student AssistantPosition TypeStudentDivisionPresidentDepartmentPresident's OfficeJob DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Mayer Museum Director, this position assists in planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and implementing programs and activities related to the Mayer Museum's community programs and exhibitions. Work involves scheduling and implementing a full range of interpretive and educational programs, including school tours. Work includes helping oversee exhibition design, artifact accession, and gallery staff management. This position will work directly with the Mayer Museum's Director to promote the museums goals and objectives to increase visitation and requires latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Create and implement innovative interpretive programs at the Mayer Museum.Improve and modify existing programs, events, and exhibits as required.Research, develop and deliver new interpretive programs with the Mayer's Director.Perform research and cataloguing related to the Mayer's collections, including items on loan.Monitor and supervise school tour schedule and gallery staff hours and responsibilities.Create a program evaluation process to evaluate the quality and impact of all programs.Participate in volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling.Prepare reports and maintain records, particularly attendance.Develop collaborative relationships with relevant student organizations, ASU departments or community liaisons.Use social media and new media as interpretive tools.Assist in museum marketing efforts by creating advertisements, print materials, and website/social media posts to promote programs and special events.Main point of contact for front counter duties including management of museum retail sales, phone calls, and visitor interactions as needed.Assist with maintenance and housekeeping, as needed.May train others.Develop and maintain training materials (instructional manuals or videos, etc.) as needed.Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance.Required QualificationsMust be a currently enrolled student and registered for classes.Strong organizational and time management skillsExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenProficiency in the use of personal computers and related software applicationsAbility to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of actionPreferred QualificationsPrevious experience in an office setting, museum setting or management experience.Physical DemandsSitting, standing, bending, walking and carrying items up to 20 pounds.Salary$10.25/hrEEO StatementAll qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, protected veteran status, or genetic information.In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Angelo State University is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to employment opportunities for qualified individuals with disabilities.
