Seasonal Admission Reader

Opened: 09/17/2024 Closed: When Filled Southwestern University, located in Georgetown is accepting applications for a Seasonal Admission Reader. The seasonal reader will evaluate first-year applications in a holistic evaluation philosophy, including the review of high school transcripts, personal essays, recommendation letters, and other application components. The admission review is comprehensive, taking into consideration each applicant’s personal, academic and extracurricular credentials within the context of a selective admission office. The seasonal reader is expected to commit to 20 hours per week during application review. (October to April, with a break during the holiday period). All training and review will be conducted remotely, and the reader will be placed on the admission team for the duration of the reading period. Weekly check-ins will be required. The seasonal reader will serve as the initial reader of the application files, submitting thorough and detailed evaluative notes. The reader will need to maintain steady and frequent communication with the admission office and be receptive to guidance and feedback from the admission staff. To ensure that admissions decision deadlines are met, a seasonal reader must be able to read quickly, carefully and objectively. All applications are read online. The candidate must have a reliable computer that can access reading systems and online-meeting systems with access to reliable high speed internet connection. We cannot consider a candidate who either currently works closely with high school students or is a college admission professional, including high school guidance counselor and independent consultant. This is a remote, part-time, six-month, non-exempt position, with no benefits who reports to the Assistant Vice President of Admission. Primary Duties: Reads and reviews first year admission files. Submits online evaluative notes on each candidate reviewed. Completes scholarships review process while reviewing candidate for admission. Engages in weekly touch base sessions with AVP of admission. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree. Ability to work with computer CRM and record evaluative information in system. Time Management skills. Attention to details and ability to exercise sound judgement. Willingness to accept feedback and quickly adapt to suggested modifications. Ability to maintain the strictest levels of discretion and confidentiality. Ability to read for long periods on a computer screen. Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.
