Growing together.Position Details:Location: 40 Holland Street, Somerville, MA 02144Department: LaboratorySchedule: Part time, 24 hours/weekly, Three 8hr days, Rotating Weekdays, Weekends, and Holidays (weekdays may be flexible)As a Medical Technologist II under general supervision you will perform routine and special laboratory assays of patient specimens (e.g., body fluids, exudates, skin scrapings or surgical specimens), exercising independent judgment when evaluating the validity of test results prior to result reporting. Operates and calibrates all equipment in the area of specialization, evaluates the validity of laboratory data, records tests results, communicates with physicians, pathologists and nursing staff regarding test procedures and results.Primary Responsibilities:Performs various chemical, microscopic and/or bacteriologic tests to obtain data used in diagnosis and treatment, and prevention of diseaseExecutes and analyzes tests in chemistry, hematology, morphology, cytology, urinalysis, serology, histology or bacteriologyCarries out a wide variety of complex and routine sampling, testing and recording duties related to the chemical analysis of body fluid or specimens obtained from patientsOperates various analytic devices used in performing complex testing and samplingConducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine and body fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal componentsVisually identifies and enumerates red and white blood cellsInterprets and correlates test results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken. Analyzes test results and enters findings in computerPerforms quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical dataPerforms routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedureVerifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data. Performs and documents troubleshooting on instrumentation as neededRecords on instrument logs any repairs, replacement and maintenance needed of equipmentEnsures excellent communication, collaboration and cooperation with coworkers and medical staff. Inform them of workflow and technical issuesAssists in the specimen processing and phlebotomy areas as necessaryAdheres to all laboratory policies and procedures, and reviews policy and procedures on an annual basisConducts moderate & high complexity testing competency assessment for their laboratory & regionResponsible for CAP (College of American Pathologist) Survey AttestationMay train and direct work for students and new staffYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in a chemical, physical, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institutionMust meet the required qualifications for being an individual responsible for competency assessment and have the education and experience to evaluate the complexity of testing being assessed as defined by CAP (College of American Pathologist)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialtyPreferred Qualifications:Certified Medical Technologist (ASCP) certificationAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)2+ years of laboratory experienceProven excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex clinical and instrument problemsProven to be accurate, reliable, and able to work well under pressure and to finish a task once startedProven solid communication skills, both in writing and speakingPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
