Electrical Engineer – Hardware Sustaining & Test Engineering
Overview
In this role you will sustain hardware by managing BOM health, ECOs, and component changes for electronics products. You will work closely with firmware, software, and design teams to validate releases and drive permanent resolutions to field and production issues. You’ll perform risk-based analyses, 8D investigations, and coordinate cross-functional activities to support Fortune 500 customers. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position at a company that values learning from both successes and failures.

ResponsibilitiesConduct full BoM scrubs to identify at-risk and EOL components and qualify alternativesPerform Change Impact Analysis (CIA) on component changes with form, fit, and function assessmentAuthor and execute ECO packages including updated schematics, PCB layouts, CAD models, and validation plansCoordinate with firmware/software teams to validate releases against hardware configurationsConduct 8D Failure Analysis investigations including containment actions, root cause, corrective and preventive actionsCollaborate with quality, manufacturing, and design teams to resolve field and production failures
Key requirementsBachelor in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred5+ years in hardware sustaining engineering, product engineering, or test engineering in consumer electronics or hardware manufacturingProficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence OrCAD, or equivalent)Experience with CAD/3D modeling tools for electromechanical designStrong understanding of electronic component specifications, datasheets, and lifecycle managementFamiliarity with firmware/hardware integration and embedded systemsKnowledge of quality tools (8D, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, 5-Why) and IPC standards for PCB design/manufacturingExperience with PLM/PDM systems and formal change management processesExperience with DFM/DFT principlesCollaborative cross-functional communicationStrong problem-solving and analytic thinkingAttention to detail and thoroughnessAltiumCadence OrCADCAD/3D modeling tools for electromechanical design
