Interim ControllerLocation: Boulder, CO (Hybrid; remote considered for exceptional AdTech/MarTech candidates)Engagement Length: ~6 monthsTarget Start Date: Mid-to-late JulyCompensation: $90-100/hour (W2 or 1099)About the OpportunityOur client, a growing AdTech company based in Boulder, CO, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide critical coverage during a maternity leave transition. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone who thrives on ownership and can step into an established process with minimal ramp-up.This is not a strategic CFO-level position - it's a "get it done" role for someone who wants to lead a lean, capable team and independently own the monthly close.The SituationThe current Controller is transitioning out for a 16-week leave, with the interim Controller assuming full responsibility by the end of July. The Interim Controller will lead a lean team consisting of a Staff Accountant and Contract Senior Accountant.What You'll Do:Independently own the full close process: a 5-day flash close (cash/AR/revenue) and a 9-day full closeManage Revenue Recognition in a high-volume transactional environmentOversee accounting for internally developed software assetsHandle GL entries related to payrollExecute monthly/quarterly commission and bonus processesLead and support a lean accounting team through a transition periodPartner closely with the CFO on day-to-day accounting operationsWhat We're Looking ForExperience & Technical SkillsBackground in AdTech, MarTech, or similar high-volume transactional tech environmentsStrong technical accounting skills, particularly in Revenue RecognitionProven ability to independently manage a close process from start to finishExperience with payroll-related GL entries and commission/bonus cyclesSystemsNetSuite requiredExperience with any of the following is a plus: Looker, FloQast, CaptivateIQ (commissions/bonuses — a big plus), Expensify, Tipalti, Spendflow, ConcurSoft Skills & Culture FitHigh personal agency: able to drive tasks to completion with minimal oversightStrong critical thinking: proactively flags issues and asks the right questions before problems compoundAccountability: owns mistakes and adapts quicklyCommunication style that's direct, objective, and low-drama - matches a CFO who is laid-back but highly direct
