Field Deputy - Patrol
CLOSING DATE: Open Until FilledANNUAL SALARY: $60,778 - 65,750 *Additional salary growth available through regular increases within the classification up to $85,639This is a regular Deputy Sheriff position and is responsible for patrolling Cass County. This position is a member of the Field Services Group and is responsible to the Patrol Shift Commander. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE NEEDEDOpen to all licensed Deputies and unlicensed Correctional Officers (unlicensed Correctional Officers must have minimum of 1 year of employment at time of vacancy closing date).Pass physical fitness course (for unlicensed Correctional Officers only to show ability to pass physical fitness standard at Peace Officer academy).Must be able to attend Cass County's 4-hour Basic Firearms Course and show proficiency and safe handling of Cass County's issued sidearm (unlicensed Correctional Officers only).Must be able to complete the standards required to obtain a temporary Peace Officer License and upon being selected attend and successfully complete the North Dakota Peace Officers Training Academy.No minimum field experience required (unlicensed Correctional Officers only).Must reside in Cass County (ND) within 12 months of official start date.Must be current on all State and Department training and education requirements.Be proficient in the use of all assigned equipment.Must be certified to do CPR.Must be able to walk, run, lift, and carry and have sufficient dexterity in ALL limbs to qualify with a firearm and perform other manual tasks associated with law enforcement.Must be capable of physical activities which may involve restraining or arresting individual(s).Must be capable of both verbal and written skills that would enable one to communicate effectively with individuals of various mental capacities and professions.Must be capable of preparing for and testifying in court.Eyesight correctable to 20/40 and hearing within normal audible range.Must hold a current driver's license.Must be in good standing adhering to the mission, vision, and values of the office.All formal and informal discipline will be evaluated, but will not be an automatic disqualifier from the application process.JOB DUTIESBe knowledgeable in all laws and procedures needed to properly perform assignments of Deputy and to meet and provide the public with limited technical, legal and crime prevention information.Patrol the county to maintain civil peace for the safety of life and property, investigate complaints and accidents and to enforce city ordinances, state and federal laws.To detect and prevent crime and apprehend criminals.Respond to public service calls as assigned.Prepare and submit reports in the proper form, substance and within prescribed time limits.Responsible for proper care and usage of all assigned equipment.Work a variety of shifts such as days, nights, weekends and holidays.Other duties as assigned.Cass County Government is an Equal Opportunity and At Will Employer.Equal Opportunity EmployerThis employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
