Driller/Exploration Team Member IV (Senior Field Lead)
Job DescriptionWe are hiring an experienced Driller / ETM 4 to lead field drilling operations on geotechnical and environmental projects. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled operator who wants consistent work, reliable equipment, and the ability to take ownership of projects without the constraints of a union environment.If you're an experienced driller who values steady hours, strong team culture, and the ability to advance based on performance , this is the opportunity for you.ResponsibilitiesDrilling & Equipment Operation• Operate and manage drill rigs using auger, mud rotary, and coring methods• Perform field testing and support subsurface exploration activities• Safely transport drill rigs and support equipment to and from job sites• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep equipment production-readyCrew Leadership• Lead a 2-3 person crew with full responsibility for daily field operations• Train and mentor junior team members with a focus on safety, efficiency, and skill development• Take initiative in solving field challenges independentlyField Execution• Set up sites, locate utilities, and establish drilling locations• Install monitoring wells, piezometers, and other instrumentation• Adapt to changing ground conditions and keep projects moving efficiently• Handle tools, materials, and samples safely and effectivelyDocumentation & Quality• Complete daily drilling logs, field reports, and DOT requirements• Classify soil and rock samples in the field• Maintain accurate and organized project recordsSafety & Planning• Lead daily safety discussions and pre-task planning• Identify and address jobsite hazards• Ensure all work meets company safety and quality standardsQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent5+ years of drill rig operation experience (geotechnical or environmental)Strong working knowledge of multiple drilling methodsProven ability to run a crew and manage field operations independentlyMechanical skills for maintaining and troubleshooting equipmentValid commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to obtain DOT Medical Card within 30 daysPreferred Qualifications: Minnesota Department of Health well drilling licenseExperience installing monitoring wells or instrumentationExperience with CPT or in-situ testing methodsAbout UsTerracon is a 100 percent employee-owned multidiscipline consulting firm comprised of more than 8,000 curious minds focused on solving engineering and technical challenges from more than 200 locations nationwide.
