Sr. Field Service Technician - Chicago, IL Full-time Education: High School FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: Remote (Chicago, IL area) Candidate must be based in the Chicago, IL area. Benefits begin the month following the hire date. The hourly wage for this position ranges from $35.00 to $39.00 and is based on specific responsibilities and geographic location. The starting hourly rate within this range will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and/or skill set. Summary Perform duties to install and provide on-demand/scheduled service and training for all general-purpose equipment with a wide variety of industrial and customer specific application machines. This position requires daily travel by auto with frequent overnight stays. Daily drive time is usually 1-6 hours. Essential Functions Perform daily tasks in accordance with all safety regulations and protocols. Complete all safety related training on time and to expectation. Document daily service activities and expenses accurately and timely in the appropriate recording system. Identify complex problems related to customers and/or machines, review related information to develop and evaluate options, and implement effective and strategic solutions. Read and interpret complex blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics for installation, repair, special upgrades and retrofits of customer equipment. Provide technical support and training to Signode Technicians. Monitor and manage service call schedules for accuracy and completion. Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic functions; perform preventive maintenance calls, disassemble units and replace defective parts. Make adjustments and test for proper operation on designated equipment. Coordinate proactive pre-installation meetings with customers to review procedures and responsibilities, inspect sites for compatibility, and install, adjust and test equipment. Proactively report and follow up on potential unsafe conditions and suggest effective solutions. Maintain effective customer relationships by providing professional explanations of product failures, problem nature and recommended corrective actions. Communicate essential information to key stakeholders such as customers, management and engineering in a timely manner. Use intermediate PLC knowledge to troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers. Identify upgrade and retrofit opportunities and notify appropriate parties to assist in quotation proposals. Design and conduct training programs for repair and/or preventive maintenance for customers and company service representatives. Prepare comprehensive non-conformance reports and service bulletins. Work with the Regional Service Manager to assist on inventory sourcing levels and parts for assigned equipment. Education High School Degree, Technical or similar College Degree Experience 4-5 years of transferable experience. Experience working on Electrical, Mechanical, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. PLC background. Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision. Desirable: Professional course(s) in electrical, mechanical or automation.
