Salary: $33.30 HourlyLocation : Lauderhill, FLJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 2026-0324Department: Police DepartmentOpening Date: 03/24/2026Closing Date: 4/14/2026 6:00 PM EasternGeneral Statement of JobThe purpose of this position is to perform supervisory administrative and technical work in the Property and Evidence Unit, under the general supervision of the Police Chief or their designee. Employees in this classification supervise civilian personnel engaged in a variety of activities related to the receipt, packaging, storage, and disposal of impounded property in criminal and civil matters. This position requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, and decision-making in determining best practices and procedures within limits of departmental rules and regulations and applicable laws and ordinance. Performs related duties as directed.Essential FunctionsThe following knowledge, skills, and abilities, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.Leads, supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, and completing/reviewing employee performance appraisals; prepares reports, forms, and correspondence; assists with complicated incidents, provides motivation, and develops a positive morale.Plans, organizes, monitors and evaluates operating procedures and practices in the Police Property and Evidence Unit.Supervises the confiscation function and the disposition of impounded property assuring all legal requirements are adhered to.Supervises the receipt, storage and release of any property, including evidence, controlled substances, firearms, and other found or recovered property.Establishes safeguards for long-term retention of narcotics, monies, jewelry, firearms and other evidence/property which cannot be disposed of pursuant to established procedures of the agency or by state statute.Prepares administrative reports and all other necessary correspondences; prepares policies and procedures updates.Evaluates new systems, methods, technology and equipment; recommends changes to more effectively operate the Police Property and Evidence Unit.Ensures appropriate security measures are in place and followed within the Police Property and Evidence Unit.Maintains logs and provides reports; provides updates of evidence disposition and status.Provides sworn testimony when requested or required for cases.Provides information for the annual budget as it relates to staffing and equipment.Attends seminars, classes, and takes field trips to other agencies to maintain or improve technical or professional skills.Instructs at Citizens' Police Academy on property/evidence procedures as well as assist in the training of newly hired sworn personnel.Performs related duties as directed.Minimum and Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Management, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; ANDFive (5) years of previous experience and/or training that includes law enforcement, inventory control, and clerical functions; or an equivalent; ANDState of Florida driver license.If no applicants meet the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and preferred qualifications may be considered.Supplemental QuestionsPlease be sure to answer all supplemental questions thoroughly and completely.
