Overview
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia is seeking a General Neurologist to join our team. We currently have two full-time clinical Neurologists. In addition to clinical practice (hospital inpatient consults, on-call, and ambulatory care), there are opportunities to participate in teaching through the Northern Medical Program (University of British Columbia), based in Prince George. The University Hospital for Northern British Columbia serves Prince George (approx. 80,000) and is a referral centre for outlying communities (total population approx. 400,000). Prince George is a center for business, education, health and culture for northern BC. The area offers affordable housing, short commutes, vibrant arts and culture, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Facility and Practice Details
We have state-of-the-art Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilities and a well-established neuroelectrophysiology lab with experienced technicians who work closely with two neurologists currently providing these services. We also have a sub-specialty Memory Clinic and a sub-specialty Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. There are opportunities to develop stroke and epilepsy programs. The successful applicant will participate in an on-call schedule and provide hospital consults in addition to ambulatory care.
Practice Context
The Department of Internal Medicine at UHNBC currently has 20 members, with 13 focusing on Internal Medicine. Sub-specialties include Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Infectious Disease, Respirology, Neurology, Dermatology, Rheumatology and Endocrinology. The hospital offers services such as dialysis, endoscopic ultrasound, bronchoscopy, echocardiography (including transesophageal) with potential to develop new services. The site includes a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit. The BC Cancer Centre for the North is located on site and includes radiation and medical oncology services. The ongoing development as a regional teaching centre makes this an exciting time to join the medical community in Prince George.
Location and Community
Prince George is the centre of business, education, health and culture for northern BC and serves a rural population of about 400,000 over an area of 600,000 square kilometers. The area offers outdoor recreation such as mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and winter activities.

Benefits and IncentivesMay be eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 12.6%, Retention Flat Fee $19,526, Relocation Funding Available (see other benefits), Recruitment Incentive $15,000, Other Benefits/Incentives $15,000. If relocating from outside Canada: $12,000; if relocating within Canada but outside of BC: $9,000; if relocating within BC: details vary.
