Server / Bartender — Old Stein Inn Location: 1143 Central Avenue E, Edgewater, MD 21037 Reports to: General Manager Status: [Full-time / Part-time] · Tipped position Compensation: $3.63/hr + tips (average $15– 25/hr with tips) About Us Old Stein Inn is a family-owned German restaurant and biergarten that has been serving Anne Arundel County since 1983. We're known for scratch-made schnitzel, german food, a 22-foot bar salvaged from Carmine's in New York City, ten German drafts, a rotating selection of 70–80 beers, and a 150-seat biergarten that fills up all summer long. Trivia on Wednesdays, live music on Fridays, and Oktoberfest is our Super Bowl with German bands on Sundays. We also host seasonal vendor markets, charity events, and multiple other events throughout the year. We're a small team that works shoulder to shoulder. Our best people stay for years. The Role We're hiring a cross-trained Server/Bartender — someone who can run a section on a busy Friday night and step behind the bar on a Sunday morning or when needed. You'll be the face of the restaurant for guests who may be trying German food and beer for the first time, and for regulars who have been coming here for decades. No German experience required. We'll teach you the beer, the food, and how to pronounce it. What we can't teach is showing up on time and caring about the guest in front of you. What You'll Do On the floor Greet and serve guests in the dining room, bar, and biergarten with genuine hospitality Guide guest through the menu and beer list — make recommendations, answer questions, handle allergies and dietary restrictions accurately Enter orders and process payments in Toast POS Work with the kitchen to time courses and keep tickets moving Maintain clean, fully stocked, properly set sections throughout your shift Support Resy-based reservations and larger parties, including private events and catering functions Behind the bar Pour German drafts correctly — proper glassware, proper pour, proper head Mix cocktails to spec and maintain consistency across all bartenders Open, run, and close the bar: stocking, prep, keg changes, glassware, cleaning, inventory counts Manage the bar as its own dining section, serving seated guests while keeping up with service well tickets Check IDs on every guest who appears under 30 and refuse service when appropriate Shared responsibilities Complete opening, running, and closing side work Follow all food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service standards Participate in the tip pool per our written tip agreement Pitch in during Oktoberfest, festivals, and private events — all hands on deck What We're Looking For Required 21 years of age or older (Anne Arundel County requirement for alcohol point-of-sale) 1+ year of serving or bartending experience in a full-service restaurant Alcohol awareness certification (TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol, or RAM-approved equivalent) — current, or willing to obtain within [30/60] days of hire Availability on nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to stand and walk for 6–10 hours, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and navigate stairs and outdoor patio surfaces Comfortable working outdoors in the biergarten in heat, humidity, and cool weather Preferred Experience with Toast POS and 7shifts Draft system knowledge — keg changes, line care, troubleshooting foam Craft beer, wine, or cocktail knowledge, or real curiosity about German beer styles High-volume, high-energy service experience What makes someone great here You'd rather be busy than bored You read a table before they wave you down You clean as you go without being asked You take care of your coworkers, not just your own section Schedule & Season Old Stein Inn runs a strong fall and winter season. Expect your heaviest hours from Sept through December, with Oktoberfest as our busiest stretch of the year. Weekly schedules are posted in 7shifts. We work with school schedules and second jobs when we can — tell us your availability up front and we'll be straight with you about what we can offer.
