About the RoleAn opportunity is available for an experienced engineer to support early-stage project development activities at refinery operations in Ohio. This position focuses on shaping project concepts, confirming business requirements, and developing practical, cost-efficient solutions that enhance operational performance and capital investment outcomes.The role involves leading early engineering phases, contributing to project delivery and startup, and offering technical expertise across multiple teams. Close collaboration with operations, safety, commercial, and technical specialists is essential to ensure projects are aligned, economically viable, and ready for investment review.Key ResponsibilitiesLead initial project development phases, including defining scope, establishing design basis, and evaluating alternativesPrepare business cases, including problem definition, financial modelling, and cash flow analysis to support project approvalWork with cross-functional teams to validate assumptions, assess risks, and confirm economic feasibilityDefine project scope to address risks, improve asset reliability, and optimise capital spendingGuide option selection during early project stages to balance cost, complexity, and operational needsContribute to initiatives aimed at improving margins in partnership with commercial and technical teamsDevelop and review key engineering documentation such as process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and design calculationsEnsure engineering quality through review of equipment sizing, safety systems, and process safety documentationProvide technical input throughout project lifecycle stages, including change management, detailed design, execution, and commissioningCandidate ProfileAuthorised to work in the United StatesDegree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related disciplineApproximately eight or more years of experience in refining or process engineering, including project developmentStrong analytical and technical skills, including experience with modelling and simulation toolsFamiliarity with process design software and heat transfer or equipment design tools is advantageousExperience in process equipment design and refinery operationsTravel of around 15% may be required, including time spent between multiple operational sites within the region.Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.About the OrganisationThis company operates across the global energy sector, managing a diverse portfolio that includes upstream production, refining, and distribution activities.
