Billing Specialist
First Choice Health Centers is looking for a Billing Specialist to perform billing, coding and collection activities for assigned providers, patients and insurance accounts. This individual will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the billing process for multiple lines of service - medical, dental behavioral health, optometry, podiatry and OB/GYN. Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Knowledge of accounting; math skillsKnowledge of medical and billing terminologyKnowledge of EHR and Electronic BillingKnowledge of 270/271 and 835/837Experience and Training: College level education in Accounting, Finance, Medical Billing. Equivalent work experience can be substituted in lieu of degree2 + years of billing/collections experience in a healthcare of insurance environment.knowledge of ICD and CPT codingExperience with and knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) is preferredExperience with ICD-9/10 and CPT coding is highly desired Knowledge of healthcare carriers and payer requirementsFamiliarity with billing software like eClinicalWorksStandard Job Duties: Preparing and submitting billing data and medical claims to insurance companiesEnsuring accurate patient information and up-to-date medical recordsMaintaining billing software, updating rate changes, and generating financial reportsResolving billing discrepancies and appealing denied claimsAbility to assess financial summaries and spot discrepancies for accurate billingPrioritizing tasks to stay organized and meet deadlinesChecking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discountCalling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessaryIdentifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurancesAnswering patients' billing and insurance inquiries, as well as handling complaintsReviewing accounts for possible assignment and making recommendations to the Billing Supervisor, also preparing information for the collection agencyMaintaining strictest confidentiality; adhering to all HIPAA guidelines and regulationsProcessing claims and following up with insurance companiesReviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness and obtaining any missing informationFollowing up on unpaid claims within the standard billing cycle timeframeReview, research and respond to correspondence from insurance companies, attorneys and patientsContact patients as needed to collect appropriate information or to collect patient balances.Identify, verify and document account adjustments according to established policy and procedures.Ensure service level and productivity requirements are met as it relates to reimbursement of accounts, resolution of tasks and response to inquiries etc.Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers by providing superior customer service.Utilize Medical and Billing Terminology.Adhere to Clean Claims Act and HIPAA policy and procedures.COVID-19 considerations: Employees of First Choice Health Centers must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
