Position OverviewMechanical Engineer Intern position to assist with the design and development and of energy storage system mechanical components for electric grid and commercial applications. Applicants should have an engineering education and desire to work in the energy and power market.The applicant needs to be interested in learning about the fields of mechanical and thermal engineering. Applicants should be skilled in mechanical design engineering, execution, logical thinking, and problem solving. Applicants should have experience/knowledge of assembly tools and equipment. Applicants may use 3D CAD tools for mechanical design work.Works under a senior mechanical engineer and consults with supervisor as required.Primary ResponsibilitiesAssist with design concepts for industrialization of battery systems.Assist with design of sheet metal enclosures for energy storage.Assesses design risk/reward and provides contingency plans based on key deliverables and timing.Work with Senior Mechanical Engineer and Test Engineering to execute any component level and pack level development and verification testing, assisting with test setup and fixturing.Work with engineers and technicians to design and build robust prototypes.Interface with prototype and production manufacturing teams to ensure product BOM is complete and components support build schedule.Support other documentation creation/editing for quality process and other design deliverables.Review product validation and verification plans at all product levels and ensure customer and internal requirements are met.Key Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesPreferred focus in mechanical engineering for undergraduate/graduateMust have excellent problem solving skillsMust have good written and oral communication skills.Previous experience in tool/die shop, mechanic garage or similar a plusExperience with PTC Products (Creo and Windchill) a plusExperience designing in other parametric modeling a plus (Ansys, Solidworks, AutoCad)Experience with Microsoft Software Suite (Visio, Excel, MS Project – a plus)Working Conditions/Office Environment/TravelWestborough, MAOccasional travel to collaborate with remote teams and suppliers.
