Courses in the organization and administration of athletic programs.Three to five years of related experience and/or training as a coach in multiple sports. Experience managing games and tournaments preferred.RESPONSIBILITIES:Recruits, selects, develops, and evaluates all coaches.Assumes leadership role in the orientation and in-service training of coaching personnel.Represents the School District in matters of interscholastic athletics with the MHSAA.Represents the School District in matters of interscholastic athletics with affiliated leagues.Schedules games, officials, and transportation for athletic events. Communicates information to participants, parents, and the public.Manages all home sporting contests, including running the event, student and parent supervision within the guidelines of good sportsmanship, and addressing any issues that arise.Organizes and runs meetings, tournaments, and award banquets each year.Communicates with athletic directors, parents, administrators, and vendors to keep them informed and involved.Evaluates student athletic eligibility and consults with administration and legal counsel on such issues, as well as any disciplinary actions that may be necessary. Seeks the advice and direction of senior administration and legal counsel on other issues, as needed.Oversees facility maintenance of athletic fields, playing surfaces, facilities, and equipment.Oversees the District's transport vans, including check-in and check-out.Programs access to the District's door security system, including fobs.Oversees marketing of athletic activities to increase participation and makes sure constituents are aware of events.Attends conference, regional, state, and national athletic director meetings.Manages, develops, and oversees the annual Hall of Fame banquet (currently held at the WMU Fetzer Center).Responsible for the safety and well-being of participants and audience members at athletic events.Implements policy and procedural changes from the Board, State, and Federal levels.Develops and continues to evaluate appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of student athletes at athletic activities.Fosters good school-family relations by communicating athletic rules, regulations, and expectations.Establishes and enforces the physical, academic, and training requirements for eligibility.Ability to be flexible and available on nights and weekends when many of the events take place or when the security system needs attention.Knowledge of computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, and other relevant software programs and their applications.Maintains current educational/administrative certificate as required by MDE.Develops and manages the budget for all athletic programs.
