Construction Accountant

As employees of Walsh Construction Co., we are builders. We are made up of a diverse group of individuals who are committed to building in the communities in which we live and work.We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to support our Corporate Controller and oversee key aspects of project accounting across the organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely month-end close, maintaining job cost integrity, and managing the lifecycle of projects from setup through closeout.This is a senior-level individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities, ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced construction environment.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist Corporate Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesPrepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedulesManage the job setup process, ensuring accuracy of budgets, cost codes, and contract detailsMaintain and monitor job cost accounting and ensure data integrity across all active projectsManage project team accounting needs related to owner draws, change orders, contract setup, and other project related itemsEnsure compliance with company policies and accounting standardsManage fixed asset records within Sage Fixed Assets softwareAssist Corporate Controller with annual budgeting processDistribute monthly and ad hoc reporting to operations and project teamsResearch technical topics such as sales and use tax, B&O tax, GAAP principles, etc., as neededAssist with internal and external auditsAdditional related duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)CPA license (strongly preferred)3–6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in:Construction or project-based accountingPublic accounting (strongly preferred)Tax background (a plus)Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas such as Xlookup/Vlookup, Sumifs, If, and other logical formulas, as well as proficiency using pivot tables and other technical functions.Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and GAAP financial reportingKnowledge of sales, B&O, payroll, and income taxation principlesAbility to manage multiple priorities, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.High level of attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.Effective communication skills, and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.Experience with ERP/Accounting Systems (Viewpoint Vista preferred)Walsh Construction Co. values our diverse communities and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.  Walsh recruits, hires, trains, compensates and promotes without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identification, age, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, veterans’ status, mental or physical disability, genetic information or any other legally protected status unrelated to a particular job’s requirements or an individual’s performance and qualifications.
