Senior Controller
This role reports directly to the CEO and is designed to create capacity, improve operational visibility, and elevate the finance function as the company continues to grow. The scope extends beyond traditional controllership responsibilities and includes financial operations, forecasting, lender reporting, and process improvement.You will work closely with leadership and become involved in many of the company’s most important decisions, including pricing, study economics, operating performance, and financial planning.This is not a highly structured enterprise environment with decades of institutional process already built. The right person will be excited by the opportunity to build, improve, and create structure rather than inherit it.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn the monthly close process and preparation of GAAP financial statements Lead ASC 606 revenue recognition using a cost-based input methodology (Cumulative Actuals ÷ EAC × TCV) across project and study-based work Own and maintain the billing tracker connecting work performed to invoices issued Oversee and direct outsourced accounting partners responsible for bookkeeping, AP, payroll, and AR support Establish performance expectations and accountability with external accounting providers Manage monthly borrowing-base reporting and lender covenant compliance Own and enhance the forward forecast model used for leadership and board reporting Support quarterly board reporting and financial planning activities Partner closely with the CEO and COO to improve financial visibility and operational decision making Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, reporting, and overall business operations Evaluate over time what finance work should remain outsourced versus brought in house Leverage technology and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and scale What Success Looks LikeThis person will quickly take meaningful work off the CEO’s plate, establish trust, absorb information rapidly, and create stronger financial structure and visibility.The successful hire will not simply manage existing processes. Who We’re Looking For3–8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, though exceptional candidates outside that range will be considered CPA strongly preferred Strong GAAP accounting and monthly close experience Hands-on ASC 606 and project-based revenue recognition experience required Experience working with ETC/EAC against contract value in project or services environments Experience in clinical research, CRO, CDMO, consulting, construction, or similar project-based businesses preferred but not required Experience working with or directing outsourced accounting partners preferred Strong financial modeling and forecasting capabilities Comfortable operating with autonomy and limited structure Technology-forward mindset with openness to AI and process automation Stable career progression with demonstrated ownership and growth
