Job Title: Operations SupervisorJob DescriptionThe Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities within a metal fabrication environment, ensuring that safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are consistently achieved. This role provides hands-on leadership to shop floor personnel while driving process improvements, optimizing workflow, and supporting business growth. The Operations Supervisor acts as a key liaison between production, engineering, and leadership to ensure efficient and on-time delivery of fabricated products.ResponsibilitiesOversee daily fabrication operations, including cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly processes.Develop and manage production schedules to meet customer delivery timelines and on-time delivery goals.Allocate labor, materials, and equipment to maximize throughput, efficiency, and labor productivity.Monitor production metrics such as output, efficiency, downtime, scrap, and rework, and take corrective action as needed.Ensure adherence to engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and job requirements throughout the production process.Lead, coach, and develop a team of fabricators, welders, and machine operators through clear direction and ongoing support.Assign daily work, monitor individual and team performance, and provide regular feedback, training, and development opportunities.Support hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning activities to maintain an effective and flexible production team.Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.Enforce OSHA and company safety standards and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.Conduct safety training, safety audits, and incident investigations, and follow through on corrective and preventive actions.Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements related to metal fabrication operations.Ensure all fabricated products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications before shipment.Partner with Quality to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for defects, rework, and scrap issues.Monitor defects, rework, and scrap rates to improve overall quality performance and reduce waste.Identify operational inefficiencies and implement lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S and other continuous improvement tools.Recommend improvements to production methods, equipment utilization, and workflows to increase productivity and reduce costs.Drive cost reduction, waste elimination, and productivity improvements across all fabrication processes.Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and maintain high equipment uptime.Troubleshoot equipment issues and work to ensure optimal machine performance and reliability.Partner with maintenance and engineering teams on equipment upgrades, modifications, and process improvements.Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Supply Chain to support production requirements and resolve constraints.Communicate production status, constraints, risks, and recovery plans to leadership in a timely and transparent manner.Ensure materials availability and inventory accuracy to support uninterrupted production flow.Track and manage key performance indicators, including production efficiency, throughput, scrap and rework rates, equipment uptime, labor productivity, and safety incident rates, and use this data to drive continuous improvement.Essential SkillsAt least 5 years of supervisory or management experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing.Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including laser cutting, bending, welding, machining, and assembly.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).Proven leadership skills with experience in coaching, developing, and managing production teams.Demonstrated experience with production planning, scheduling, and workflow management in a manufacturing environment.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP systems for production and inventory management.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced production setting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with shop floor personnel and cross-functional teams.High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards and compliance.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment while managing multiple priorities.Data-driven mindset with a focus on KPIs, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.Hands-on experience in operational or production supervision or management within a metal fabrication setting.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S and related methodologies.Experience with ERP or MRP systems beyond basic user level is highly desirable.Technical degree in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing.Ability to work effectively with metal fabrication technologies and equipment, including laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly tools.Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus, depending on the workforce composition.Proficiency with Microsoft Word in addition to Excel for documentation and reporting.Strong management skills with the ability to balance people leadership, production demands, and process optimization.Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a combined office and shop floor manufacturing environment within a metal fabrication facility. The Operations Supervisor spends significant time on the production floor, regularly standing, walking, and interacting with equipment, materials, and production personnel. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The position may occasionally require additional hours and some Saturdays, with Saturday responsibilities rotated among team members as needed to support production demands. The environment involves working around fabrication equipment such as laser cutters, press brakes, welding stations, machining centers, and assembly areas, with appropriate safety practices and personal protective equipment in place. Office-based work includes using computers, ERP systems, and productivity software for planning, reporting, and communication.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesquite, TX.Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.25 - $48.00/hr.RequirementsEligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
