We ensure every student the opportunity and the means to achieve excellence and preparation for advanced education through purposeful academic and residential programs.Reporting to the Girard College Director of Health Services, the main role of the school nurse is to ensure that every child is in optimal health to facilitate learning. The school nurse focuses on supporting the physical, mental, emotional and social well being of the students to promote success in learning. The school nurse is responsible for caring for children in grades 1-12. The school nurse provides oversight and leadership of the health suite on shifts, under the direction of the Director of Health Services. The shift available is Sunday through Thursday from 3 pm to 11 pm beginning August 1, 2026.Students receive treatment for acute and long-term medical conditions that may include diabetes, asthma, blood disorders, high blood pressure, seizure disorders, anaphylaxis, and etc. Acute management can range from treating minor cuts and scrapes to medical emergencies requiring transport to other facilities. Medication administration ranges from over the counter to prescription medications administered under the direction of the Director of Health Services and Medical Director. Providing basic first aid and medical care to other school staff is inclusive in the school nurse duties. ResponsibilitiesHealthcareIndividualize care to meet the biophysical, psychosocial and educational needs of each studentMake referrals to the appropriate support staff when warranted or an expressed needAssess, evaluate and treat minor to severe injuries according to nursing standards and school policyEffectively communicate with families, the health care team and other school staff to provide continuity of careParticipate in annual immunization screenings for each student and make appropriate corrections to meet state mandated compliance. Administer vaccines when requiredAdminister prescribed and over the counter medication according to nursing standardsProvide health education and teaching to students as well as staff to promote health and wellness.Develop and support individualized healthcare plans and emergency care plans for students with chronic conditionsAdministrativeProficient use of computers for e-mails, Word document, Excel, and power point. Familiar with Magnus or a comparable electronic medical record systemMaintain confidentiality of all information in student medical files and in the dissemination of verbal or written information to other staff and disciplinesAnalyzes documentation of all student visits in the medical records and utilize the nursing process to manage care. Evaluates effectiveness of care given and documents the responseDemonstrate sound judgment and clinical knowledge in planning and decision makingDemonstrate the ability to function under stressful situationsAdhere to universal precautions and infection control guidelinesDemonstrate professionalism through appearance, attendance, performance, and communication at all timesCollaborate with admissions to support the student enrollment process, ensuring all medical documentation is accurate and completeCurrent PA RN LicensureCurrent CPR/AED CertificationA minimum of 3 years previous experience in pediatricsSchool Nursing Certification preferredPrevious use of data systems designed for student recordsMust be able to climb stairs in various campus buildings
