Lead Resident Engineer

Overview In this role you will lead a multi-year, high-value water transmission program in the Chicagoland area, supervising a team of Resident Engineers and coordinating with design and operations staff. You’ll ensure contract conformance, safety, and quality while managing cost and schedule for complex infrastructure work. You’ll influence project delivery across multidisciplinary teams and drive client-focused outcomes. Compensation / Benefitsmedical, dental, and vision planswellness program401(k) planemployee stock purchase programlife and AD&D insuranceshort-term/long-term disability ResponsibilitiesSupervise Resident Engineers and other staff; cover for REs when neededEnsure construction aligns with contract documents, specs, and codesOversee daily construction management tasks: records, payments, change orders, reportsEnforce safety protocols during constructionReview contractor payment applications and adjust as neededEvaluate extra work and prepare cost JustificationsMonitor contractor performance, schedule compliance, and responsivenessOversee CM Field Office staff, including training and mentoringCoordinate construction with operations, maintenance, police, and other stakeholdersResolve non-conformances and ensure close-out of contractsApply water/wastewater project experience to progress reviews, permitting, QC/QA, and commissioningUtilize MS Office and construction management software (Kahua, e-Builder) for communications and documentationMaintain strong client relations and problem-solving to deliver cost-effective solutionsPossess strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skillsConduct background checks due to critical infrastructure exposure Key requirementsExperience on water/wastewater infrastructure projects in a Construction Management or Owner’s Representative roleProficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Familiarity with construction communication and documentation systems (Kahua, e-Builder)Excellent organization, multitasking, and adaptabilityStrong oral and written communication; client-focusedAbility to build trust and effective relationships; problem-solving and negotiation skillsKnowledge of local, state, and federal building codes and safety practicesIndependent thinker capable of solving technical issues within a teamBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical EngineeringLicensed Professional Engineer in Illinois preferred10+ years of multi-discipline construction project experienceExperience managing construction observation, site management, permitting, QC/QA, inspections, and close-outPreference for candidates in northeastern Illinois or northwest IndianaStrong communicationTeam leadershipNegotiationMS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)Kahua or e-Builder (construction management software)Knowledge of safety codes and construction standards
