The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position SummaryThe Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS) MA program at Columbia University is one of the oldest interdisciplinary applied statistics MA programs of its kind. We count hundreds of data scientists, senior analysts, and academic researchers among our alumni. Reporting to the QMSS Director, the Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for all elements of administrative and financial support for the QMSS program. The incumbent will assist with processing all financial elements of the program, supporting the hiring process of student officers, coordinating operational elements of event planning, assisting with the recruitment and admissions process, and answering questions for incoming and current students.ResponsibilitiesAcademic & Student AffairsAssist with student recruitment and admissions for QMSS, including coordinating the review of applications, processing decisions in the online system, and working with the admissions office on scheduling and communication.Maintain all student records, including schedules, credits, graduation intentions, financial aid, course-taking, and other student data.Serve as a resource for students navigating University systems: check in with students having difficulties, monitor student progress, coordinate degree audits, clear students to graduate, process leave of absence requests, withdrawals from the program, grade changes, and keep students updated on upcoming deadlines. Sends out weekly newsletters to students and alumni.Support academic course arrangements, including scheduling courses, submitting courses for approval to GSAS, reserving classrooms for all courses, ensuring courses are posted on the directory of classes, assisting faculty with CourseWorks (Canvas) setup, grade submission, class rosters, compiling evaluation reports, and distributing them to faculty and staff.Liaise with other University offices (e.g., ISSO, Bursar, and Registrar) and advocate for students.Serve as the first point of contact for QMSS, responding promptly and professionally to student and program inquiries.OperationsSupport the hiring and onboarding of students as Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Departmental Research Assistants (DRAs), including coordinating the recruitment process for the QMSS DRA Match program and tracking the program's budget.Handle program purchases, reconciling expenses monthly, and processing reimbursements.Work closely with ISERP's administrative unit on academic and student appointments, including financial, operational, and logistical transactions.Supervise work-study students to complete program tasks.Event PlanningManage all operational elements of event planning, including room scheduling and food ordering.Coordinate students for events such as orientations, town halls, career panels, graduation, alumni events, and workshops.Required to work occasional evenings and weekends.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent required.0-2 years of related experience.
