Firefighter - Lateral(Transfer)
Firefighter The City of Zanesville is currently accepting applications for lateral transfers. Minority applicants are encouraged to apply. Position qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, Firefighter II (240 CARD) and Paramedic Certification, and current participation in the OP &F OR OPERS pension system. The ability to handle the physical requirements of the job and availability to work shift assignments are also required. Firefighters must participate in and complete training programs required by the Fire Chief, including river rescue, hazardous materials response, fire control systems, and emergency victim care. Documentation of identity and employment eligibility is required within three days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements. State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and Firefighter II and Emergency Medical Technician certification are required. The job involves occasional exposure to extreme heat, cold, dampness, fumes, noise, dirt, dust, toxic gasses, flames, hazardous chemicals, ice, smoke, and other potentially serious or life-threatening hazards during firefighting operations, vehicle accident extrications, and other rescue operations. The employee must exercise firefighting and emergency safety precautions to prevent potentially serious burns, falling, and other rescue operations which could lead to serious or fatal injury. The employee must be knowledgeable in the proper patient lifting and packaging techniques on emergency medical runs. The physical demands include working in confined spaces or at heights, working physically for extended periods of time under uncomfortable and dangerous conditions; lifting persons and objects of varying weights, climbing ladders, extending arms, crouching, crawling, and performing other physical demands during emergency response. The employee normally uses usual vision demands and must be able to converse with and hear coworkers while working as a team. During non-emergency or response times, the employee exhibits physical demands normally required to perform maintenance and other work. Knowledge of firefighting, emergency medical skills, CPR, general building construction and materials, firefighting safety precautions, and local street locations and landmarks is required. Ability to learn technical firefighting and emergency rescue/emergency medical principles and techniques, perform strenuous tasks under hazardous, stressful, inclement, and uncomfortable conditions, withstand heights, lift persons and other heavy objects, exercise sound and prompt judgment in emergency, take orders, work as a team with others, develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, law enforcement officers, and the general public, and work effectively in closed spaces is also required. Skill in the use of firefighting and rescue equipment, fighting fires, and emergency medical techniques while responding to emergency situations is necessary. Age requirements are 18 years of age for Firefighter appointment. No person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment on or after the person's forty-first birthday (O.R.C. 124.42). Required documents to upload with the application include a driver's license copy. Other documents to upload include a résumé, other relevant certificates, and DD214 (if applicable). Applicants are required to read the Public Safety Information Book prior to application. A thorough background investigation will be conducted into the applicant's work experience, reference checks, criminal activities, character, trustworthiness, and dependability. Applicant will also be subjected to a polygraph examination. Selected applicants will be subjected to a psychological exam and a physical/drug screen.
