Innovation Specialist – Tyndall AFB, FL BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. POSITION SUMMARY: BB&E is seeking an Innovation Specialist to support AFCEC/CFDI Natural Disaster Recovery (NDR) at Tyndall AFB, FL. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Air Force, in conjunction with the US Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District, is executing a $5.3B military construction program to rebuild Tyndall Air Force Base…construction activities are expected to continue for the next 4+ years There are many new and emerging technologies that you will have involvement with to include: Digital Twin which digitizes new facilities and supporting buried utility infrastructure to support maintenance, future renovation efforts, effective and organized responses by first responders, etc. Orion, which will provide an enhanced ability to assess airfield pavements and detect the presence of potential Foreign Object Damage (FOD) which could impact the Air Force’s ability to conduct combat operations from a deployed airfield Drone detection Building occupancy sensors Gunshot detection Installation Resilience Operations Center (IROC) which will provide a common operating picture for a variety of sensors across the base (security, fire, EMCS, remote video sensors, other) and the future merging of this data with Digital Twin Testing and evaluating of “robotic dogs” to patrol remote and dangerous locations around a military installation Development and fielding of a variety of cameras and sensors via wireless technology (feeds into the IROC concept) New facilities at Tyndall AFB will meet, and in some cases exceed the Miami-Dade County building standards…our facilities will be constructed to withstand 165 mph sustained high winds (Cat 5 hurricane), constructed above the 14 foot flood elevation to protect facilities against future storm surge events, use materials that will not sustain major damage from flying debris (precast concrete panels, split face concrete block, etc.), and adopt a variety of other state of the art technologies Tyndall AFB has teamed with a variety of universities, national laboratories, wildlife agencies, and government agencies to field test a variety of coastal resilience technologies that include strengthening and sustaining sand dunes, artificial reefs, establishing oyster beds, and other state-of-the-art measures to protect the base’s coastline against future storm surge events…what works at Tyndall AFB will potentially be useful to other coastal communities and DoD installations around the world…Tyndall’s cutting edge efforts were recently recognized at a Presidential awards event at the White House Many of the emerging technologies that you’ll be supporting are being funded through the AFWERX program, managed by the Deputy Air Force Chief of Staff (a 4-star general), intended to quickly accelerate promising technologies that will be critical to giving the US Air Force the winning edge over our adversaries KEY QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum three (3) years of experience in the identified area. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and three years (3) years of directly applicable work experience. JOB QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: As listed above in the Experience & Education Section, the successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from with applicable related experience. Preferred experience includes direct experience with AFCEC/CFSD (military, civilian, Contractor including A&AS and Title II), next is work with other AFCEC organizations in one of these categories, and finally work for other DoD organizations in engineering or construction and/or experience in direct management of onsite construction for a construction Contractor.
