Director of Project Management (Heavy Civil Construction)
Position SummaryWe are partnering with a growing, privately held heavy civil contractor to identify a Director of Project Management to lead and support project execution across the organization.This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of Project Managers and a Project Scheduler, while working closely with field leadership and ownership to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with client expectations.The Director of Project Management will serve as the central point of coordination across all active projects, helping bring consistency, accountability, and structure to how work is planned and executed. This role is ideal for a senior project leader who has grown up in civil construction, understands how jobs run in the field, and can step in to support, coach, and elevate the team.*The ideal candidate will be located in Southern Colorado or be willing to relocate to the area. Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage a team of Project Managers and a Project SchedulerOversee execution of all active projects to ensure schedule, budget, and quality targets are metProvide hands-on support to Project Managers in planning, problem-solving, and decision-makingDrive consistency in project management practices, reporting, and communicationWork closely with field teams to ensure alignment between project plans and field executionReview and manage project schedules, resource allocation, and sequencing with the schedulerMonitor job cost performance, forecasting, and financial tracking across projectsIdentify risks early and proactively address issues impacting project performanceInterface with clients, subcontractors, and government stakeholders as neededSupport contract administration, change orders, and compliance on public-sector projectsPartner with ownership to improve processes and strengthen overall project executionRequired Qualifications10–15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction or infrastructure3-5+ years as a Director of Project Management, managing Senior Project Manager, or a Project ExecutiveProven experience leading multiple projects simultaneously between $20M - $100M+Strong understanding of project scheduling, job costing, and field executionExperience working on DOT, federal, or municipal projectsDemonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop project teamsComfortable stepping into field-related issues and working directly with crews and superintendentsStrong problem-solving ability in fast-paced, real-world construction environmentsSkills and CompetenciesProject lifecycle leadership from pre-construction through close-outStrong financial and commercial acumenProficiency with current software tools such as Procore, Vista/Spectrum, HCSS Suite, P6, MS Office, MS Project, and CADEffective negotiation and vendor management skillsRisk assessment, mitigation, and problem-solving capabilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environmentCompensation & BenefitsBase salary range expected to be between $200,000 – $250,0000 plus bonus potential.
