Position Camp Co-Director - Greenville Optimist Camp for Persons with DisabilitiesClassification PS01-04 $22.09 - $23.10 - $24.14 - $25.56Hours 40/week during camp season. The 2026 season will be 3-4 weeks long.Supervisor PresidentPositions Supervised: All seasonal camp staff and volunteers*This position will be in training with the current Camp Director for this summer's camp session.Mission StatementEightCAP, Inc. improves our community by collaborating with private, government, and community organizations to deliver programs that alleviate the causes of poverty and its effects, allowing individuals to become self-sufficient.Essential Function of the JobThe Camp Director leads the seasonal operations and year-round planning for Camp Wah Wah Tay See, a summer camp for individuals with disabilities. This position ensures a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment for campers and staff. The Director is responsible for all aspects of camp programming, facilities oversight, staff supervision, health and safety compliance, and community engagement. While the role is full-time during the summer season (June-early August), it requires limited hours throughout the year for administrative planning, fundraising, and coordination with EightCAP and the Greenville Optimist Club. The Camp Director is expected to live on-site during camp sessions.Key Responsibilities:(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in the positions of this class.)Camp Operations: Oversee all aspects of camp operations including programming, camper care, food service, health and safety, business administration, and facilities cleanliness.Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and support seasonal staff. Lead pre-camp and ongoing training sessions and staff meetings.Licensing & Compliance: Ensure camp is in full compliance with applicable regulations and licensing requirements.Policy Development: Develop and update camp policies and procedures including camper and staff handbooks, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.Camper Experience: Coordinate registration, check-in, communication with families and caregivers, and ensure camper needs are met.Facility Oversight: Monitor camp facility needs, communicate with the Optimist Club regarding repairs and improvements.Financial Oversight: Assist in budget development, monitor spending, manage purchasing of food and supplies, and support grant and fundraising efforts.Program Evaluation & Reporting: Prepare post-camp reports, evaluate program success, and recommend improvements for future seasons.Fundraising & Community Engagement: Develop funding proposals, assist in fundraising events, and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders.Year-Round Planning: Attend and facilitate meetings of the Camp Advisory Board and maintain administrative duties throughout the off-season.Other duties as assignedKey CompetenciesLeadership and Supervision: Ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of diverse staff and volunteers.Communication: Clear, compassionate, and professional communication with families, stakeholders, and staff.Organization and Planning: Strong skills in event coordination, scheduling, and resource management.Problem Solving and Crisis Management: Capacity to remain calm and effective in emergency situations and resolve issues as they arise.Cultural and Disability Awareness: Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to inclusion of individuals with disabilities in recreational settings.Core Values at WorkAccountability: Upholds safety and licensing standards and operates with transparency in financial and operational decisions.Communication: Facilitates honest, respectful, and timely dialogue with all stakeholders.Compassion: Demonstrates empathy and care in creating a nurturing camp experience.Empowerment: Promotes an inclusive environment where campers and staff can grow in confidence and independence.Minimum QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent required.Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, or related field preferred but not required.Experience:Minimum 8 weeks of cumulative full-time experience working with children, individuals with disabilities, or in a camp/recreational setting.Minimum 4 weeks of full-time administrative experience in an organized camp or similar program (required by Michigan licensing).Experience supervising staff and managing programming in a recreational or residential setting.Licenses/Certifications:Valid Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.CPR/First Aid certification preferred (training may be provided).Clearances:Satisfactory review of Criminal History Check, Central Registry Clearance (DHHS), and fingerprinting.TB test and physical exam as required for licensing compliance.
