The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing production-grade APIs, ensuring they meet high standards of security, reliability, and performance. This role requires a hands-on engineer with a strong background in Ruby on Rails and API development, capable of collaborating effectively with technical leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that support the department’s mission to serve veterans effectively.ResponsibilitiesDesigning and developing APIs, including setting specifications, creating endpoints, data models, and implementing REST and GraphQL interfaces.Developing and maintaining reliable, scalable Ruby services, ensuring code quality through rigorous code reviews and adherence to security best practices.Collaboration with technical leads, API architects, and engineering teams to align development efforts with organizational standards and goals.Integrating APIs with various internal and external systems, creating comprehensive documentation, and implementing secure development practices such as OAuth and encryption.Monitoring API performance, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing scalability.Managing API versioning, handling production incidents, and participating in Tier 1 and Tier 2 on-call support to ensure system stability and reliability.Using AI-enabled tools to enhance productivity and code quality as part of daily operations.QualificationsA minimum of six years of professional experience in Ruby on Rails development, demonstrating a deep understanding of API design and implementation.A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.Extensive experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.Proficiency with testing frameworks like RSpec.Strong knowledge of secure coding practices, authentication, authorization, and encryption.Experience leading engineering teams while maintaining a hands-on approach to development is highly desirable.Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud-native technologies will be advantageous in this role.Required SkillsRuby on RailsAPI DevelopmentRelational Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL)Testing Frameworks (RSpec)Secure Coding PracticesPreferred SkillsCI/CD PipelinesContainerizationCloud-native TechnologiesPay range and compensation packageGrabJobs offers a competitive benefits package designed to support the well-being and professional growth of its employees.
