This role partners closely with HR leadership and management to provide practical, business-focused legal guidance while mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesEmployment & HR Legal SupportProvide legal counsel on employment law matters, including hiring, discipline, performance management, terminations, and reductions in forceAdvise HR and leadership on employee relations issues, investigations, and dispute resolutionReview and support compliance with wage and hour laws, anti-discrimination laws, workplace safety regulations, and leave requirementsPolicy & ComplianceWork with HR to draft, review, and update employee handbooks, HR policies, codes of conduct, and internal proceduresMonitor changes in employment and labor laws and proactively advise on required updatesSupport internal audits and compliance initiatives related to HR practicesContracts & DocumentationWork with HR to draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, offer letters, severance agreements, confidentiality agreements, and restrictive covenantsProvide guidance on independent contractor classifications and workforce structuringLitigation & Risk ManagementManage employment-related claims, complaints, and administrative charges, including coordination with external counsel when neededSupport responses to government agency inquiries and auditsIdentify legal risks related to people operations and recommend practical mitigation strategiesTraining & AdvisoryPartner with HR to develop and deliver training for managers and employees on employment law and workplace best practicesServe as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR-related legal issues and strategic initiativesQualificationsRequiredJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolActive bar membership in good standing3–7+ years of experience in employment law, labor law, or in-house legal roles with significant HR exposureStrong knowledge of employment and labor, DOT laws and HR best practicesAbility to provide clear, practical legal advice in a fast-paced business environmentPreferredPrior in-house experience or close partnership with HR teamsExperience drafting HR policies and employee handbooksFamiliarity with multi-state or international employment issuesStrong interpersonal skills and business judgmentSkills & CompetenciesExcellent written and verbal communicationStrong judgment and problem-solving skillsAbility to balance legal risk with business objectivesCollaborative mindset and comfort working cross-functionally with HR, leadership, and managementHigh level of discretion and professionalismSalary Range: $115,000.00 / $165,000.00 per year
