TEACHER-SPECIAL EDUCATION BEHAVIOR

JOB GOAL: Provide intervention and instruction to students with behavioral disorders in order to assist them develop appropriate behavior, coping skills and social skills.Position QualificationsBachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or universityValid Texas teacher certificate in Special Education and content assignedExperience in a special education classroom setting (preferred)Duties And ResponsibilitiesUnderstands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.Models and instills a love of learningImplements special education behavioral program that is adopted by Harmony Public SchoolsTeaches assigned students appropriate replacement behaviors as determined by the students’ Behavior InterventionPlansAssists assigned students in implementing the replacement behaviors in their classroom settingsAssists classroom teachers in implementing students’ Behavior Intervention PlansProvides consultative assistance with developing behavioral strategies for students not on current caseload, including 504students and Behavior RtICollaborates with parents, teachers and other relevant staff members in developing and implementing IEPsTakes CPI certification class or approved equivalent in order to implement de-escalation techniques and legal restraintprocedures during crisis situationsPlans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that maximize student engagement and learning.Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguisticbackgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.Implements a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense ofcommunity in the classroom.Collects data to determine student’s strengths and weaknessesCollects data in order to develop student’s standards-based IEPsCollects data in order to measure student’s progress on IEPsProvides case management duties for assigned studentsAttends ARD meetings for assigned studentsPrepares ARD paperwork for assigned studentsConducts tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs.Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and proceduresMaintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the schoolImplements a clear and consistent behavior management system while developing students’ character and sense ofcommunity in the classroom.Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust teaching strategiesAttends department, school, district and parent meetings.Participates in district and campus staff development and serves on staff committees.Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues.Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.Prepares required reports on students and activitiesEstablishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activitiesAssigns and grades classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.Takes daily attendanceCommunicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress andstudent needsEstablishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Performs other duties as assigned.Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of curriculum and instructionKnowledge of special education laws and regulations.Ability to lead a team of people for purposes of developing effective teaching strategies for students with disabilities.Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and externalto the district.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.Ability to use effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skillsAbility to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software,calculator, copy machine and telephone.Ability to analyze data.Work Environment And Physical RequirementsLight Work: may require the occasional light lifting.Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.Position is in classroom setting and requires intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.Moderate travel is required.
