Resident Engineer/Project Manager(Confidential Client - Do Not Post or Distribute Without Permission)Location: Northeastern Illinois RegionCompensation: $100,000 - $160,000 annuallyA transportation infrastructure consulting organization is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer / Construction Project Manager to oversee field operations for roadway, highway, and bridge infrastructure projects. This leadership role focuses on construction oversight, quality assurance, team supervision, and coordination with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.Position OverviewThe selected professional will manage construction engineering activities and field personnel while ensuring compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities include supervising inspection teams, administering quality programs, monitoring project performance, and supporting final project acceptance.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee construction schedules and track progress to ensure timely project delivery.Monitor project budgets and support cost-control measures.Supervise field teams including inspectors, technicians, and junior engineering staff.Interpret contract plans, technical specifications, and special provisions to guide construction activities.Observe, evaluate, and document construction operations and contractor performance.Administer quality assurance programs and establish materials testing frequencies.Prepare project documentation including progress reports, pay estimates, and contract modifications.Ensure quality control reviews are performed on all assigned work and verify accuracy of team deliverables.Coordinate with design teams, contractors, public agencies, and clients.Support project closeout procedures and final acceptance documentation. QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.13+ years of progressive experience in construction inspection and infrastructure project oversight.Experience with roadway, highway, or bridge construction engineering.Familiarity with state transportation construction standards, procedures, and documentation requirements.Strong leadership capabilities with experience directing multidisciplinary field teams.Effective problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Willingness to travel to project sites as required. Technical SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Familiarity with computer-aided design and drafting platforms used for transportation infrastructure projects.Working knowledge of digital documentation and reporting systems for construction oversight. Preferred CertificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license.Construction materials documentation certifications for transportation agency projects.Coatings or corrosion inspection certifications are advantageous.
