Job Posting: Housing SpecialistSalary: Up to $60,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.The Harlem Independent Living Center (HILC) is seeking a full-time, on-site Housing Specialist to support individuals with disabilities in accessing safe, affordable, and accessible housing in New York City. This position works with HILC’s Olmstead Housing Subsidy Program, helping individuals transition from institutional settings to community living and secure housing with necessary support. More information about the program can be found here: Olmstead Housing Subsidy Program.Position Overview: The Housing Specialist will help consumers locate and secure housing, understand tenant rights, access reasonable accommodations, and transition from institutional settings to community living. The role also involves workshops and community outreach.Key Responsibilities:Identify and maintain housing resources, including accessibility, location, and costAssist consumers with applications, interviews, and housing placementsEducate consumers on tenant rights and available support servicesConduct assessments and develop individualized service plansMaintain accurate, confidential consumer recordsAdvocate with landlords, property managers, and housing agenciesLead or support workshops, presentations, and community outreachAbility to travel throughout the five boroughs in NYCParticipate in team meetings, training, and agency and contract initiativesSupport systems-based advocacy by reporting barriers and opportunitiesOther duties as assignedQualifications:BA/BS + 2 years housing experience in NYC or AA + 5 yearsStrong advocacy, communication, and organizational skillsKnowledge of NYC housing programs and accessibility laws Ability to work independently and collaborativelyProficient in Microsoft Office; ability to learn new softwareMultilingual candidates encouragedEqual Opportunity Employer: HILC encourages applications from individuals with disabilities, people of color, women, veterans, and members of all underrepresented communities.How to Apply: Send a cover letter and resume to info@hilc.org with the subject line: ATTN: OHS Housing Specialist - No phone calls, please.
