Project Manager - Track (New York)We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Track to oversee railroad track construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance operations across New York-area transit projects. This role is responsible for managing all phases of track work in coordination with agencies including MTA, LIRR, Metro-North, NJ Transit, and other regional transit authorities.During the early phases of a project, the Project Manager will support office-based construction administration activities including submittals, RFIs, scheduling, and regulatory coordination. Once field operations begin, the role transitions primarily to onsite management, directing crews and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all contract specifications and regulatory requirements.The ideal candidate will have strong railroad transit construction experience, leadership capabilities, and a solid understanding of FRA Track Safety Standards, AREMA standards, and New York transit authority procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesManage daily field activities for railroad track construction and rehabilitation projectsPlan, organize, and direct projects to ensure completion on time and within budgetSupervise onsite track crews, subcontractors, and multiple trade disciplinesCoordinate with MTA, LIRR, Metro-North, NJ Transit, and New York State DOT representativesEnsure compliance with FRA Track Safety Standards (49 CFR Part 213), AREMA standards, and transit authority engineering requirementsPrepare and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, inspection reports, daily logs, and progress reportsConduct daily site inspections to verify work quality, safety, and compliance with contract documentsCoordinate emergency response activities and resolve field issues in accordance with railroad and transit authority protocolsManage equipment maintenance and operational readiness for track construction activitiesOversee track geometry, alignment, surfacing, rail, tie, and ballast operationsCoordinate track outages, work windows, track access agreements, and return-to-service activitiesOversee switch and crossing installations, OTM equipment operations, and specialty trackwork in commuter rail, subway, and freight environmentsMonitor inspection results, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions with engineering teamsSupport safe work practices including flagging, track protection, and work zone safety in active railroad environmentsAvailability to work weekends as required (overtime compensation provided)QualificationsStrong knowledge of railroad track construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance operationsFamiliarity with New York transit authority engineering standards and operating procedures preferredWorking knowledge of FRA Track Safety Standards (49 CFR Part 213) and AREMA standardsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documentsExperience managing projects within active railroad right-of-way environmentsStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction documentation processesAbility to work effectively under pressure and respond to emergency situations professionallyExperience RequirementsMinimum 5 years of railroad track construction experience requiredRailroad transit project experience requiredExperience with New York transit or commuter rail projects strongly preferredExperience supervising field crews and subcontractors in rail environments preferredEducation RequirementsBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferredEquivalent combination of construction experience and supervisory experience will be consideredMinimum 5+ years of construction experience with at least 3+ years managing field crews accepted in lieu of degreePhysical Requirements & Working ConditionsAbility to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and sleetAbility to walk long distances on uneven terrain and active railroad environmentsAbility to work around loud noise, heavy equipment, and moving machineryMust be able to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 poundsMust be willing to travel as required for project assignmentsEmployment TypeFull-TimeOn-site / Field-Based PositionWeekend availability required as needed
