Renewable Energy EHS Leader

Basic Function The EHS Leader will lead and manage the environmental, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS) efforts across our mid-size utility-scale solar projects, ranging from 25 to 200 megawatts. This role is responsible for ensuring that all projects are constructed and operated in full compliance with applicable EHS legal, regulatory, and company standards. The EHS Leader will develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs and processes, working closely with EPC teams, client project managers, and cross-functional leaders to drive EHS performance excellence.Duties and Responsibilities EHS Strategy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of the “EHS roadmap” aligned with our company’s business strategy. Collaborate with regional and cross-functional teams to adapt, promote, and monitor the effectiveness of global EHS programs and initiatives.Project Leadership: Oversee and lead EHS-related projects, ensuring all legal, regulatory, and company EHS requirements are met. Continuously improve the EHS Management System to maintain its effectiveness and ensure it is certifiable.Audit and Compliance: Plan, implement, and follow up on audit, assessment, and inspection programs, including certification audits. Ensure compliance with EHS standards across all projects.Resource Management: Plan and align EHS budget and personnel resources. Participate in the selection and staffing of EHS positions, ensuring adequate competence management and training systems are in place.Risk Management: Implement EHS and sustainability-related to risk management processes within projects. Collaborate with EPC teams to ensure that statutory requirements are identified, integrated, and adhered to.Reporting and Analysis: Work with project teams and EPC partners to ensure accurate EHS reporting at local and regulatory levels. Monitor and analyze data trends related to incidents, audits, and corrective actions to drive continual improvement.Contract Evaluation: Evaluate EPC project contracts to ensure compliance with EHS requirements, focusing on health and safety hazards, environmental aspects, EHS risks, and legal requirements. Oversee the incorporation of EHS-related requirements into EPC project contracts and implementation plans.Emergency Response: Respond to project site EHS emergencies, conducting investigations, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Serve as a resource for EHS-related risks and opportunities, providing operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable standards.Continuous Improvement: Support the development of an EPC pre-qualification process and a balanced QEHS EPC scorecard to continually enhance EPC QEHS performance.Qualifications/Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Sciences, or a related field in Industrial Safety.Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years in EHS, with a strong background in leading multiple projects. Experience identifying health and safety hazards, environmental aspects, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with EHS legal requirements.Certifications: Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred. OSHA 500 certification preferred. ISO9000/ISO45001/ISO14001-based management system program implementation experience is advantageous.Project Management: 2+ years of project management experience within the Utility Scale Solar Projects preferred.Skills: Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable EHS legal and statutory requirements. Proven ability to lead and influence teams.Other Requirements: Valid Driver’s License. Ability to travel up to 50%. First Aid, CPR/AED certified.
