Professor and Director, of the Institute for Cancer Genetics

The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) and Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) is seeking a Director of the Institute for Cancer Genetics (ICG). The ICG emphasizes discovery cancer science, spanning mechanisms to model systems to translational applications. The ICG is located at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) campus in a component of the Irving Cancer Research Center (ICRC) building: https://www.vagelos.columbia.edu/departments-centers/institute-cancer-geneticThe successful candidate will be expected to advance research in cancer science with a history of pioneering research accomplishments and leadership experience with a proven track record in identifying outstanding young researchers and fostering their careers. The ICG Director will report to the Director of the HICCC and to the Dean of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.Responsibilities include the following:Research : Grow cutting edge cancer science through recruitment of future scientific leaders and enhancement of collaborative research efforts.Faculty Support : Provide mentorship and career guidance to faculty members within the ICG and across the HICCC, facilitating their professional growth and development.Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, ethical standards and institutional policies.Education and Training : Contribute to the education and training of students, residents, fellows and other trainees in cancer science.Applicants should have a PhD, MD MD/PhD or equivalent degree, national and international stature and expertise in managing large-scale research programs.Distinguished record of scholarly achievements, including a significant publication record in leading scientific journals and a demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.Knowledge of regulatory requirements and ethical considerations in research.Strong commitment to graduate and medical education including a record of effective teaching and mentorship. Experience in mentorship of junior scientists and mid-career scientists will be considered as a plus.The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
