Business Development Manager

DFI is seeking a driven and well-connected Business Development Manager to lead growth across the Bakken / North Dakota market. This role is focused on expanding our presence with operators, midstream companies, and contractors by building strong relationships, identifying opportunities early, and converting them into executed work.This is a hands-on, field-oriented role suited for someone who understands how work actually gets built in the Bakken - from early planning through execution, and knows how to navigate client organizations, job sites, and local networks.ResponsibilitiesDriving Growth in the BakkenBuild and expand DFI’s presence across North Dakota by developing new client relationships and strengthening existing ones.Identify upcoming work with operators, midstream companies, and EPCs early in the project lifecycle.Develop and execute a territory plan focused on securing foundation, piling, and related scopes tied to energy infrastructure.Client Relationships & Local PresenceMaintain an active presence in the Williston and broader Bakken community — job sites, offices, industry events, and informal networks.Build trust with decision-makers at multiple levels (field, engineering, procurement, and leadership).Represent DFI as a reliable, solutions-oriented partner that understands the realities of working in this region.Opportunity Development & Win StrategyLead opportunity identification, qualification, and pursuit strategy.Position DFI for work through early engagement, technical discussions, and relationship development.Identify when to leverage Design-Build, subcontract, or Joint Venture approaches to improve competitiveness.Internal CoordinationWork closely with estimating, operations, and engineering teams to align on pursuits and ensure accurate, competitive proposals.Support smooth handoffs of awarded work to operations, ensuring expectations are clear and aligned.Provide real-time market feedback to leadership on pricing pressures, competitor activity, and client needs.Market IntelligenceStay current on Bakken activity — drilling programs, facility expansions, infrastructure projects, and capital plans.Track competitors, pricing trends, and shifts in client strategy.Maintain accurate pipeline and client data in CRM.Industry EngagementParticipate in local industry associations, client events, and trade activities.Identify opportunities for DFI to increase visibility through sponsorships, presentations, and networkingQualifications:Strong existing network in the Bakken / North Dakota oil & gas market (operators, midstream, EPCs, or contractors).Proven ability to open doors, build relationships, and convert opportunities into awarded work.Minimum 5+ years in business development, sales, or operations within oil & gas, heavy civil, or industrial construction.Solid understanding of how projects move from concept → design → construction in the Bakken.Familiarity with construction delivery models (lump sum, T&M, Design-Build, subcontracting, JV structures).Technical exposure to deep foundations, piling, or heavy civil scopes is a strong asset.Based in or willing to relocate to Williston, ND (or surrounding Bakken region).Willing to spend significant time in the field and with clients (travel throughout ND and surrounding areas).Valid driver’s license and ability to access job sites.Proficient with standard business tools (Excel, CRM systems, etc.).What sets you apart:You’re known in the region — people take your call and trust your word.You’re equally comfortable on a job site or in a boardroom.You understand both the commercial side (winning work) and the execution side (delivering it).You have a “builder’s mindset” — practical, responsive, and focused on solutions.
