Middle/High School Principal 2026/2027
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment 1.Establishes and maintains a student-centered learning environment that promotes intellectual growth, rigorous content acquisition, and 21st Century Skill development; 2.Leads the school's instructional program, promoting and supporting high student engagement in instruction focused on the application of rigorous content in a problem-solving task-based environment. 3.Ensures that class sizes are adequate to enhance student learning; 4.Ensures that written curriculum is implemented, monitored and evaluated; 5.Ensures that a program of assessment of students is in place and used to inform instructional practice; 6.Develops and implements in accordance with the policies and regulations intramural, co-curricular, and student activities that enhance educational delivery; Personnel and Staff1.Leads the staff in developing and maintaining a professional collaborative culture that promotes transparency of practice in service of an institutional growth mind-set.2.Plans and facilitates staff meetings that focus on the district's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles in an environment of professional collaboration and decision-making; 3.Plans professional development programs that promote professional transparency within systems designed to sustain ongoing and embedded professional collaboration; 4.Interviews and recommends new staff members for nomination to the Superintendent of Schools; 5.Assigns, observes, and evaluates all personnel within the school. Submits all evaluations of employees to the SAU office by March 1st of each year; 6.Makes recommendations relative to renewal and assignment of staff; 7.Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations to staff; 8.Administers personnel practices within board policy, administrative regulations and negotiated contract agreements; 9.Ensures the proper maintenance of personnel records; Physical Plant Operation and Management1. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant in conjunction with the Director of Operations; 2.
Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes; 3. Plans and supervises fire drills and all emergency preparedness programs; 4. Asserts leadership in times of civil emergency in the school or in the immediate school area to ensure the safety of the students and staff and for the security and accountability for the property; 5. Ensures that a program of inventory control is maintained and updated; 6.
Makes recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools about student transportation and student transportation issues;7. Helps coordinate use of the building by outside organizations; 8. Participates in the safety committee and makes recommendations to the Superintendent about all safety issues; Students1.Ensures all students are engaged in a learning experience that supports intellectual and social-emotional growth in a competency-based learning environment.2.Creates systems and programs for students to actively participate in the school visioning and decision-making process.3.Creates a school culture that promotes mutual respect, embraces differences, and keeps students at the center of decision-making.4.Develops and implements school or special events that recognize student achievement and learning; 5.Ensures that accurate records are maintained for each student to include: attendance, assessment results, grades and course of studies, health records, special education records and student service records as required.6.Ensures that the following services are provided to students on an as need basis: health services, counseling/guidance services, food services, special education services, English as a second language services, Section 504 services and other federal and/or state programs;7.Establishes and implements a system that defines student conduct, rules and regulations relating to student behavior, and enforce a fair and equitable disciplinary system that follows due process rights for all students; Public Relations1.Organizes and administers an aggressive multifaceted public relations program to inform the public, parents, guardians about school programs and instructional programs; 2.Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life; 3.Serves as a member of such a school and/or district committees that emphasis communications with the public; 4.Responds to written or oral request for information; 5.Cooperates with local authorities in matters relating to students as defined by School Board Policy and administrative regulation; 6.Makes use of community resources to supplement and enrich the delivery of instruction; 7.Develops and implements a system of communications relative to student progress, including arrangements for special conferences Finance1.Submits a school-based budget annually to the Superintendent of Schools and the School Board following prescribed guidelines; 2.Ensures that the staff participates in the development of the budget; 3.Ensures that supplies, texts and materials are ordered and distributed equitably following School Board policy, administrative guidelines and approved budgetary allocations; 4.Ensures that designated school district accounting procedures are followed relative to the expenditure of public funds; 5.Maintains a record and control of any local funds generated by student activities and/or fundraising; Other1.Attends school-sponsored activities, functions and co-curricular events; 2.Participates in leadership team meetings and other principals' meetings; 3.Serves as an ex officio member of all committees and councils within the school; 4.Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent of Schools; 5.Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal or to ensure management of all school programs and/or activities; 6.Is knowledgeable of and executes School Board Policy;7.Any other duty as assigned. SUPERVISES: Middle and High School teachers, support staff and such individuals as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1.
Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job;2. Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time;3. Ability to work in a school environment including noise and distractions and with high school and middle school students.
