Founding AI Engineer, Computer Vision / VLMs

JackMillbrae, CAL5 SeniorOctober 1st, 2026
Build the AI brain of smart glasses that field engineers wear inside data centers, power grids and aerospace plants. We're a funded seed-stage startup putting agentic vision-language models on wearable hardware for industrial workers. Anchor customers are on a path to $10M ARR, and hyperscalers and top aerospace primes are in the pipeline. The two technical co-founders have been best friends since age three and bring deep AI, robotics and mechanical engineering backgrounds. You'd be one of the first engineers and own the whole multimodal AI stack from day one. What you'll buildA production agentic VLM pipeline on smart glasses: multi-step, tool-using visual reasoning against real inspections and SOPsThe eval and data flywheel: eval harnesses, failure capture, and customer-data-to-fine-tune loops that make every release measurably betterEdge inference and orchestration that holds up when connectivity and latency get rough in the fieldReal-time voice and video interfaces for the glassesOpen-source model fine-tuning (SFT, RLHF, quantization) for on-prem enterprise deploymentsYou've probablyShipped a vision-language or multimodal system to real users (images or video plus a VLM, not audio-only or sensor fusion)Built agentic systems with tool calling and multi-step reasoning, beyond RAG or single-turn chatbotsWorked at an early-stage startup, been a founder or early engineer, or come from a high-intensity team like Meta Reality Labs, Anduril, SpaceX or a top YC companyWorked in Python and PyTorch daily, with 0 to 3 years of industry experience and a BS or MS in CS, ML or Engineering (or shipped work that proves the equivalent)Bonus: AR or wearable AI, autonomous driving CV, or a master's thesis in vision or multimodal work.Probably not a fit if your multimodal work has been research or prototypes only, or you're looking for remote or hybrid.Comp: $180K to $230K base plus 0.25% to 0.75% equity. 5 days a week in SF.
