Shift Manager

Job Title: Shift Manager (Hands-On, Floor-Focused) Jaxsons Ice Cream Parlor Compensation: $52,000–$60,000 annually, based on experience Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried Schedule: Primarily nights; open availability required Reports To: General Manager (and designated leadership) Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Shift Manager to lead front-of-house operations during assigned shifts. This is an active, working management role that requires a strong floor presence, direct guest interaction, and real-time oversight of service staff. This position is not an expediter role. The Shift Manager is expected to circulate the dining room, touch tables, check front-of-house departments, and ensure staff are completing their assigned responsibilities according to established standards and checklists. The focus of this role is execution and consistency, not operational changes. The Shift Manager works within existing systems, procedures, and a defined leadership structure. Key Responsibilities Floor Leadership & Guest Experience Maintain a visible, active presence on the floor throughout service Touch tables and engage with guests to ensure satisfaction and resolve concerns Monitor service quality, timing, and professionalism Ensure all front-of-house departments are performing assigned duties Assist when necessary i.e. Host stand, servers, etc. Staff Direction & Side Work Accountability Direct servers and FOH staff during the shift Ensure side work is completed fully and correctly using established checklists Reinforce expectations clearly and professionally Address routine service issues in the moment and escalate when appropriate Execution & Operational Compliance Execute service according to existing procedures and instructions Follow direction provided by the General Manager and designated leadership Maintain cleanliness, safety, and service standards Complete assigned opening, mid-shift, and closing responsibilities Cash Handling & POS Handle cash accurately and responsibly Open, close, and reconcile cash drawers as assigned Toast POS experience preferred, not required Performance Expectations Success in this role is measured by: Consistent completion of server side work and checklists Active floor leadership (not remaining stationed at expo or pass) Positive guest engagement and effective issue resolution Clear, timely communication with staff and management Adherence to established procedures without deviation Professional, calm leadership during high-volume periods Hierarchy & Communication Structure This role operates within a defined management structure: The Shift Manager reports directly to the General Manager Operational questions, concerns, and feedback are communicated through the GM Direct communication with ownership regarding operations is not part of this role unless directed by the GM This structure exists to ensure clarity, consistency, and accountability. Experience & Qualifications Minimum of 5 years experience in a Shift Manager or comparable supervisory role Strong front-of-house restaurant operations background Cash handling experience required Toast POS knowledge preferred Excellent communication and guest relations skills High level of patience and strong interpersonal skills Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented Seeking long-term employment and stability Certifications & Compliance ServSafe Manager Certification preferred, not required Background check required Physical & Scheduling Requirements Ability to stand and work on the floor for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed Nights, weekends, and holidays required Open availability required Who This Role Is Not a Fit For Managers who prefer an expediter-only or stationary role Candidates seeking to change menus, systems, or procedures Individuals uncomfortable working within a clear chain of command Managers who prefer direct access to ownership rather than communicating through the GM Job Type: Full-time Pay: $52,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Employee discount Health insurance Vision insurance Work Location: In person
