Compensation: $19-$20 per hour, depending on experienceWork Model: In-personBenefits Include: Paid sick time offAbout the Sheridan Inspire Initiative:Sheridan Inspire is funded by Great Outdoors Colorado, with the goal of connecting youth and their families to the outdoors. The initiative includes creating outdoor spaces, activating those spaces with programs, and building pathways to outdoor stewardship jobs and leadership roles. In partnership with the Sheridan School District, elected officials, city agencies, and the City of Sheridan, over $5 million has been awarded to support programs for local families and youth. The Sheridan Inspire Initiative, which includes twelve community partners, offers youth jobs, volunteer opportunities, family-centered activities, and outdoor experiences like canoeing, biking, rafting, tubing, and day camps.About Groundwork Denver:Groundwork Denver (GWD) is a 501(c)3 non-profit community-based organization that partners with communities to improve the physical environment and promote health, equity, and resilience. We work where environmental and social challenges intersect; ensuring that all people, regardless of zip code, have access to clean air, healthy food, green spaces, and sustainable housing.POSITION SUMMARYThe Summer Day Camp Counselor is a seasonal member of the Groundwork Denver team and Sheridan Inspire, supporting general operations of a summer camp program designed for up to 27 children. The program is delivered in partnership with South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The position includes approximately 57 hours of work during the pre-camp phase, starting May18th, 163 hours during camp (JuneJuly), and 57 hours post-camp (late July).GENERAL DUTIESPersonnelParticipate in weekly check-in meetings with the director during the camp seasonProvide guidance and support to fellow camp counselors and volunteersManagement & AdministrationAssist with managing the daily and weekly camp scheduleHelp distribute promotional materials (brochures, posters, announcements, etc.)Collect and organize photos for website and social media updatesCommunicate effectively with campers, parents, staff, and volunteersAssist South Suburban Parks and Recreation staff when they are leading camp activitiesWelcome and check in campers dailyMaintain and organize all waivers, registration forms, and data collectionHelp share the Generation Wild message and work together with coalition partners when neededProgramHelp run all camp programs safely, efficiently, and on scheduleEnsure camper and staff safety and well-being at all timesMonitor and maintain safe conditions in all program areas and facilitiesPromptly report injuries or program changes to supervisorsQUALIFICATIONSThe ideal candidate will have:At least one year of experience working with children and some post-secondary educationStrong leadership, supervision, and motivational skillsA passion for working with children and families from diverse backgroundsBilingual fluency in English and Spanish is preferredCPR certificationStrong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasksKnowledge of health and safety guidelines in camp settingsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsA combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.
