Structural Engineer

Overview As a Structural Engineer at HDR, you design critical infrastructure across healthcare, civic, tech, commercial, water, and light industrial sectors, with emphasis on seismic resilience. You’ll work with architects and other engineers to drive project delivery, mentor EITs, and coordinate design through development and construction phases. Your role supports HDR’s mission to innovate and build sustainable environments. ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with architects and discipline leads to develop designs and drive projects, independently or as a team leadCoordinate the structural design team through design development and contract documentsLead and participate in agency reviews for code complianceConduct design development and documentation sessions at project sites with PMs and other disciplinesManage workload scheduling through design development and construction document phasesCoordinate with affected disciplines on addenda, RFIs, change orders, and implement agreed changesPerform site visits and lead construction administration effortsWrite/edit structural specifications, select materials/procedures, and perform calculationsReview structural documents for conflicts and adherence to standardsPerform other duties as needed Key requirementsBachelor's degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringProfessional engineer license (PE) or equivalent recognized for the locationPrevious structural engineer experienceExperience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and structural analysis software (e.g., RAM, ETABS, SAFE, STAAD, RISA, Tedds)Experience in an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firmActive participation in an employee-owned cultureStrong communication skillsEmerging leadership aptitudeEntrepreneurial spiritStructural designCode compliance and reviewsSeismic design experience
