Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist - Laboratory- Evenings - PRN

Job DescriptionThe Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing technical testing in a laboratory area (chemistry, special chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, blood bank, or hematology/coagulation). The MT/MLS performs clinical diagnostic testing to aid physicians and clinical care team in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for performing clinical laboratory procedures to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease or disease processesPerforms diagnostic tests for interpretation or therapeutic intervention as requestedPerforms varied or specialized bacteriological, serological, hematological and related examinations according to established standardsCompletes all testing; evaluates the validity of laboratory data, and records test resultsOperates and calibrates all equipment in the area of specializationCommunicates the patient and health care information to the appropriate health care providerReports all critical test results or critical results to the appropriate health care provider in a timely mannerCommunicates with physician, pathologists and clinical staff regarding test procedures and resultsCompiles and records test results into the electronic health recordCommunicates expectations to team members and support staffQualificationsRequired Qualifications:Education: B.S. degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent from an NAACLS accredited institution, or B.S. degree in another science field and certification as required.Licensure: Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology MS (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP), or equivalent certification as MT. If a new graduate, certification is required within three (3) months.Experience: NoneSkills, Knowledge, Abilities: Must know the theory and practice of medical technology/ medical laboratory science. Must be able to operate and perform some troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment. Must be able to do manual procedures if needed.Preferred Qualifications:Education: None.Licensure: Advanced certification in a specialty from ASCP.Experience: None
