Engineering Manager, Cloud Software Platform Practice
Overview
In this role you will lead a cloud software engineering team to build and evolve the platform that powers Abbott’s digital health ecosystem for clinicians, patients, and caregivers. You will translate strategy into delivery, ensure secure, scalable services, and foster a culture of trust and continuous learning. You’ll work with product, security, and architecture leadership to balance near-term delivery with long-term platform health. This is a remote-friendly leadership role in a mission-driven, innovation-led healthcare company.

ResponsibilitiesLead and coach a team of cloud software engineers, aligning growth with organizational objectivesFoster team-first leadership, accountability, and inclusive collaborationCreate a psychologically safe, learning-focused environmentSupport hiring, onboarding, and knowledge sharing within the practiceLearn and improve Go-based healthcare platforms and implement cloud servicesDesign and implement Go-based services for high-volume, low-latency healthcare platformsDevelop APIs and integrations with partner systems for medical data sharingCollaborate with Information Security to build secure solutionsEnsure platform performance, reliability, and uptime with strong engineering standardsContribute to architecture and operational decisions with Architecture and Platform leadershipSupport delivery by identifying capacity, risks, and dependencies and communicating tradeoffsAlign engineering priorities with product owners and business stakeholdersBalance delivery speed with long-term platform health, security, and observabilityEncourage experimentation based on customer needs, evidence, and valueBuild cross-functional relationships with Product, Security, Quality, Regulatory teamsLead technical planning, design reviews, and engineering best practicesStay current with technologies and advocate for innovationsSupport regulatory requirements including FDA and global regulations
Key requirementsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experienceMinimum 8 years of related experience or a Master’s with 6+ yearsLeadership experience in cross-functional or matrixed teamsExperience with cloud-based or distributed systemsAbility to coach engineers and foster a mentoring cultureExperience designing asynchronous messaging and backend processing jobsExperience building scalable, reliable architecturesAbility to translate business goals into engineering priorities and delivery plansStrong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholdersComfortable working asynchronously with distributed teamsStrong CS fundamentals and software development experiencehumilitycuriosityaccountabilityGo programmingcloud platformsdistributed systems
