Job Description SummaryMUSC delivers approximately 3,200 patients annually. Labor and Delivery, consists of 17 LDRs, 2 ORs, 3 PACU beds, and 4 Triage rooms. In addition to vaginal and cesarean deliveries, L&D provides operative services such as cerclage and tubal ligation. Medical support includes management of gestational/chronic diabetes, hypertension, and other high risk antepartum conditions including acceptance of high risk maternal transports from the region. Wireless Electronic Fetal Monitoring is available in all beds. Perinatal palliative care is available as needed. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.Additional Job DescriptionPhysical and Mental Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
