Histotechnologist II

HistologistUnder direct supervision from anatomical pathology management, performs all aspects of routine histology to prepare patient tissue samples for the Pathologist to perform microscopic examination to render a diagnosis.Key ResponsibilitiesProcesses surgical specimens by loading, unloading and programming the tissue processors.Embeds tissue samples according to department specific protocols with proper orientation.Prepares quality slides following departmental microtomy protocols.Performs routine H&E and Special Staining, performed both automated and manually.Accurately accessions specimens into Laboratory Information System.Able to perform frozen sections as needed.Uses and maintains laboratory equipment, not limited to, but including: tissue processors, stainers, coverslippers, microtomes, computers and printers.Completes microscopic quality control review of slides.Performs ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning and maintaining inventory of supplies.Performs additional tasks as assigned.Work ExperienceMinimum QualificationsMust satisfy one (1) of the following:HT/HTL (ASCP) certificate ORSuccessful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program ORAn Associate's Degree with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate's degree.Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a laboratory setting. Experience as a histotechnician or histology lab assistant is preferred.
