***This position is an 11-month contracted position. ***SummaryProvides a comprehensive approach to meeting student needs through early identification, prevention, intervention, and counseling. The goal is to ensure academic success, educational equity, and social justice by reducing social, emotional, economic, and environmental barriers to education. This role involves collaboration with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to support the student's ability to benefit from their education.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Socio-Cultural Assessment and EligibilityInterviews parents to prepare socio-cultural reports describing family history, structure, dynamics, developmental/health history, and social/adaptive behavior.Submits socio-cultural reports to the eligibility committee.Participates in eligibility committee deliberations by presenting and interpreting gathered data relative to referred students.Assists special education teachers in obtaining documentation related to the IEP process.Consultation and Liaison ServicesActs as a liaison between the school division, community agencies, and out-of-county placements for both general and special education.Consults with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding school concerns, special education procedures, and community resources.Collaborates with school counselors to support students with social and emotional needs.Serves as an advocate for the student while maintaining professional confidentiality.Attendance and Truancy ManagementTracks and monitors student attendance in reference to truancy reports and court intervention.Attends attendance conferences at all schools and conducts home visits to facilitate improved attendance.Represents the school division in court truancy matters.Schedules and facilitates ITRT meetings, ensuring to include community partners.Student Support and InterventionIdentifies and monitors homeless students, assisting with enrollment, documentation, and needed provisions.Coordinates with the Department of Social Services regarding students in Foster Care.Case management of court ordered and school referred FAPT cases.Make appropriate referrals for services, based on student needs.Represent the school for FAPT quorum.Professional Development and AdministrationAssists with in-service training for classroom teachers, principals, and non-professional staff.Conducts parent education activities to strengthen the school-parent relationship.Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and division policy.QualificationsStrong assessment skills and knowledge of individual and family dynamics, child development and functional/dysfunctional behavior.Ability to develop working relationships with students, parents and professional colleagues within the school division and within the community.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Education and/or ExperienceMasters of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work with school social work field placement experience as required by Virginia Department of Education for licensure eligibility - Virginia Pupil Personnel licensure with endorsement in School Social Worker.Valid VA Driver's License.Language SkillsAbility to read and understand reports/evaluations by medical doctors, clinical psychologists and other professionals as well as Virginia Code related to attendance and other education topics. Ability to create written correspondence/reports directed to various reading levels ranging from parents with less than high school education to professionals with advanced degrees. Ability to speak effectively with students and parents as well as professional colleagues.Reasoning AbilityAbility to understand written policy and procedure and to explain the same to students, parents, division staff and other professionals especially pertaining to attendance and special education issues. Ability to interpret policies and procedures of other agencies as they may impact families or the division.Physical DemandsAbility to see, hear and speak with others. Ability to use telephone, computer and other office machines as needed. Ability to drive to other locations for meetings or interviews including making home or worksite visits to parents.Evaluation
